Police in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, said Sunday they have arrested a man who allegedly stabbed a woman in a supermarket.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:40 p.m. at a York Benimaru outlet on Saturday afternoon. TBS reported that the suspect, identified as Etsuro Toyama, 42, stabbed the 44-year-old woman in the lower back with a knife, while she was at the register. Store staff subdued him until police arrived.

Police said Sunday that the woman suffered a wound 12 centimeters deep but her injury is not life-threatening.

Fuji TV quoted police as saying that Toyama said he didn't know the woman and that he just wanted to stab someone to make the news.

Seriously ??? The news ? There are less painful ways to get that done at your own expense. I never can wrap my head around this "I felt like doing it" mentality that's shown in the news so often here.

If he wanted his name in the paper, he could have taken out an ad. It is better to have your name in the paper for doing good than for doing evil.
