Police in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, said Sunday they have arrested a man who allegedly stabbed a woman in a supermarket.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:40 p.m. at a York Benimaru outlet on Saturday afternoon. TBS reported that the suspect, identified as Etsuro Toyama, 42, stabbed the 44-year-old woman in the lower back with a knife, while she was at the register. Store staff subdued him until police arrived.
Police said Sunday that the woman suffered a wound 12 centimeters deep but her injury is not life-threatening.
Fuji TV quoted police as saying that Toyama said he didn't know the woman and that he just wanted to stab someone to make the news.© Japan Today
