Police in Sumoto, Hyogo Prefecture, have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of violating the anti-stalking law by repeatedly taking photos of an 18-year-old female store employee on his smartphone.

Police said Takahiro Hamada, a teacher at Minami-Awaji Shichi Municipal Elementary School, was arrested on Tuesday, Kyodo News reported.

According to the warrant, Hamada was a frequent customer at the store where the woman works, between April 16 and Sept 7, during which time he took videos and photos of the woman on his smartphone. The woman’s mother consulted with police in late July.

Police said Hamada told them he had developed feelings for the woman and just wanted to have photos of her.

Why doesn't the headline read: "Elementary school teacher arrested for stalking...."?

he could've tried striking up a conversation and see where it goes instead of going the creeper route.

I feel sorry for that young woman knowing that freak is around her workplace.

Oh no! Not again, I can’t believe it.

Something wrong here, why are so many teachers in Japan sexual perverts and paedophiles?

Or you can just...you know. Ask her out to lunch or dinner instead of being a creeper?

What a shame if he goes back to work his co-teachers already know his secret and desires

Because, as crazy as this sounds, even in 2023 there is no national database of sex weirdos like we have in the UK, for example. Japan is so behind the times, it's ridiculous.

Looks like some Japanese men have difficulties communicating with the opposite sex in a normal way. What he did was weird however he probably thought it was normal. He could have tried to strike a conversation first. Then ask her out if it goes well. Much better options to try to get together with her.

Why aren't you homeschooling your children if Japanese teachers are s evil? Let's just blame an entire nationality because of a couple articles you read. That is totally normal.

Why doesn't the headline read: "Elementary school teacher arrested for stalking...."?

Not that it makes it any less or more okay, but what does him being a teacher have to do with him stalking a non elementary school age woman? Would be the same as writing IT security specialist arrested for stalking.

is it a test to provoke an emotional response?

That makes sense to the vast majority of us but if you know the guys here, the creepy route seems to make sense to them. Why talk when you can just be creepy? Don't ask me.
