Police in Yokohama have arrested an unemployed 24-year-old man on suspicion of theft after he stole money from a wallet from the company president who was interviewing him for a job.

According to police, the incident occurred at an elevator maintenance company in Seya Ward at around 8 p.m. on Nov 10. Fuji TV reported that the suspect, Shogo Takeda, has admitted to stealing 50,000 yen from the 32-year-old company president's wallet which was in a bag beside the desk. Takeda told police he took the money when the president briefly left the office.

Police picked up Takeda who had left his contact information on the resume he had submitted when he applied for the job.

Wonder about the millennial generation in Japan. Don't seem to have the same values as the elder generation.

Just based on the headline, I was wondering what kind of interview that was. The article cleared that up.

Why on earth would you conduct an interview at 8 pm? I could see if they wanted to see him perform on the job for an evaluation and do so after a business has closed to watch him do maintenance work, but a sit down at 8 pm? That should tell the guy to stand by to be worked unmercifully.

What kind of thief leaves their real contact info unless he was looking for new room & board behind bars?

He should hire him as Sales Manager

Definitely a nominee for this year's Darwin Awards.

DaDude: A very stupid one.

The unemployed strike again. All of these crime stories on JT are giving the unemployed a bad rap. Or maybe they reveal why they're unemployed.

DaDude: "What kind of thief leaves their real contact info unless he was looking for new room & board behind bars?"

I'm guessing he didn't go in there thinking to steal and had already submitted his info with the hope of actually landing a job. Then opportunity, to the extremely stupid and greedy, presented itself and he stole, having already given his real info. Definitely not bright, but I doubt he went in there with the intent and then handed over his info as well -- but you never know.

In any case, I'm guessing he was declined for the job.

Has to be a dare with his mates or is he that silly?! Would love to see the "you haven't been successful on this occasion" email!

Few points for his ballsiness though.

This idiot wanted to get paid for the interview, or he wanted a pay advance.

Genius. He should say he was drunk and he might even get the job!!

Guy must have watched "Good Will Hunting" prior to the interview.

Show me the money!

Expect this to become a new interview tactic. Wallet on the desk with some bills peeking out, boss goes for bathroom break ...

If he was applying for a job on Wall Street and did this, they'd hire him right away.

Not to worry. Trump bailed him out and has selected him as his Secretary of Incrimination.

Yes ! he slipped whilst pickpocketing, only if the theft charge is more serious.
