Police in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of stealing 21 underwear items from the apartment of a woman with whom he used to work in 2019.
According to police, Noriaki Horage has admitted to the charge and told police he made a spare key to the woman’s apartment without her knowing about it, Sankei Shimbun reported. The woman, who is in her 50s, used to work with Horage at a manufacturer and distributor of machine components.
Police said Horage secretly took a photo of his coworker’s key and used the serial number to make a spare key. Furthermore, he managed to obtain her address from the company directory.
Police quoted Homage as saying: “I became obsessed with her and I wanted to have some of her underwear.”
Horage is also accused of stealing the woman’s insurance certificate to retrieve personal information and impersonated her by creating a personalized insurance web page.

Ah yes, another part of the Japanese honorable culture. stealing women's underwear.
Toshihiro
I have no idea how this is done, but this is unsettling to know. All I know is having a pic of a key and a digital printer can get you access to places.
Again with the undies. I really don't get Japan with its fetishes. We have someone who collects work boots, bicycle seats, female shoes, school uniform, and underwear, what's next? At this point, I'm no longer surprised.
Garthgoyle
Why not buying underwear at a store and then wank at home with some good old fashioned internet porn? He went through a lot for stealing those undies. Hope he doesn't just get slap on the wrist.

Not to unfairly correlate a fetish with a culture or people but there seems to be an obsession with body fluids, used garments and smells/odors?
InspectorGadget
What locksmith in his right mind would make a copy of a key just from a photo?????
snowymountainhell
Just an observation: That Olympic village will be ‘ripe with opportunity’ for such fetishism in the coming weeks for such thieves IF there are ANY possible flaws in security and containment.

Waw, that's quiet a obsession considering she was in her 50's. She might have really made a impact on him during her time as a worker there for him to go through so much trouble just to get her panties. Usually this happen when a person is mistreated their whole life and suddenly someone kind come along and cause this kind of obsession. Becaue the person who is bully would start to miss the kindness given to him by that person. Well, at least this happen once with someone i knew.

This comment has pedophilic undertones that you may not have intended or be aware of.

Why do all this when you can only say I LOVE YOU or something close to it, unless you are a creep.
Some dude
Ok, yeah, not to trivialize this, but this is genuinely one of those “only in Japan” headlines.

Wow, a special brand of passive aggression; the calculating perv...

I definitely don't understand that fetish. I definitely definitely definitely don't understand wanting a FIFTY-year-old woman's underwear. He needs some serious help.

Well if those are from Victoria secret

She really must be someone special to go to the lengths he did to copy her key, steal her underwear and make a personalized insurance webpage about her.

I love watching the weirdness come out in a culture where so little really evil happens that stories like this can actually make press whereas in my country such a story would be buried by so much seriously evil BEHAVIOR happening daily that a story like this would never even make it to a news outlet and would just be a joke around the police station. You go, Japan!
William77
What went wrong with this country and it’s society...

I don't think any old locksmith would be able to cut a key without an original. I think the actual key manufacturer keeps records of the cut of each particular key through its individual serial number and you can just request for a newly cut key by using that number. I think the problem is is how easily this guy did that without any authorisation.
Captain Obvious
You'll mature one day! I don't particularly have a fetish for underwear, bur what's wrong with a fifty year old woman?
Beanie
What are they translating as “insurance certificate”.
her health insurance card?
her mainambah card?

You are joking, but looking at the level of weirdness here, I would not rule that out.

What about the entering into the apartment? No charges for that?

This guy needs a psychiatric evaluation. Something is wrong within his brain, not normal behavior.
Mocheake
You're joking, right? Her age is what's wrong. Halve it and then we can talk! I won't down vote you though because somebody has to want them!
Seesaw7
LOL. He obviously like older women.

Another day, another creepo.
ReasonandWisdomNippon
She was 50?? And he was 38??
You have an age advantage sir. Ask her out. I'm sure she will say yes. Options at the age of 50 are limited for women.
Why focus on the underwear if you can have the original source of the good stuff by dating her and having a relationship.
Sven Asai
Ha ha, why such a crime and copy the key and steal the underwear? Make it just more official and nothing happens to you. I (and you all probably too) know of a famous president who simply married the similar target. He’s famous, celebrated and has everyday access to such underwear. lol

I'm not condoning this panty raid but coming from a big country that has very serious gun related issues, I'm surprised this got the headlines.

For special mention because the instant mental image is priceless:

I suppose, she must have been really hot... (in his mind),
but for some reason it did not end well...

It's incredible. The whole world with a spare key would steal money and valuables ... but wait! here we are in Japan ... I can't imagine all the work to make those keys.

Since Moddy made an honest mistake and deleted it:
"This story is heavily reminiscent of the WaiWai stories that used to run in the Mainichi Daily News so many years ago."

Mechanical key duplication is easy. I've done it on the job myself.
Does 'Arnold Layne' ring a bell?
Rob-3
Okay, but 21 underwear items?!?
I suspect this was his overall intent. By confessing to the theft, even if he really had some weird fetish, is lesser of a crime than the later.
