An unemployed 48-year-old man who was staying at a hotel in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, has been arrested for stealing items from his guest room, which included a mini-refrigerator, microwave oven and other appliances.

According to police, Isao Takahashi, who is a resident of Shibukawa, Gunma Prefecture, stole four items from the hotel room he was staying in on Tuesday, Sankei Shimbun reported. The stolen objects include a mini-refrigerator, microwave oven and table clock.

A hotel employee, who had gone to clean the room after Takahashi checked out, noticed that the fridge and other appliances were missing. The hotel notified the police.

Takahashi was quoted by police as saying, “I couldn’t make ends meet and my fridge at home was broken so I planned to use the hotel one for myself.”

Outsider How did he get the stuff past the front desk? As I recall, emergency exits are alarmed aren`t they so that would leave only the main exit. Strange.

May be love hotel , when they check out they do not pass the reception.

I don´t think I have seen a microwave and fridge in a love hotel yet. (Not to say that is not possible.) On the other hand, LHs usuially have funky game and karaoke systems; I would think they would make better items to steal. So no, I don´t think it was a LH.

Two places that I have visited do have ... , also they do have check-out machine in the room like JR ticket machine you just pay and the door unlocked.

Rookie mistake. Shoulda said "I was drunk, and I don't remember anything."

Why? How would that have changed anything?

Amazing isn't it? Junk basically. The guy wants these "necessities" and wants to steal them so he can use them every day and get by. No, he is not a meth user. No, he does not plan on selling them. No, he does not want to just try to live without a refrigerator and microwave oven, which is sure doable, and No, he is not willing to go to a recycle shop and work out some plan to pay for older appliances over time.

It is refreshing old-style larceny, but committed by a lazy guy who is addicted to a convenient lifestyle. And he wants it now. Kind of a Veruca Salt meets Taxi Driver ... gritty sort of feel to it.

Did he start stealing ice cubes and hot plates as a kid and work his way up to this life of crime?

I don't think I've ever seen a love hotel without a fridge. Microwaves are fewer and further between.
