Police said Tuesday they have arrested a 42-year-old man for committing two hit-and-run driving offenses while drunk earlier this month.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Ryuji Ninomiya, had been drinking on Dec 4 at two different hostess bars before attempting to drive his car. Sankei Shimbun reported that he then collided with another driver at around 8:30 p.m. and fled the scene. Police say the driver of the other vehicle, a woman in her 60s, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Ninomiya then went to another hostess bar and continued to drink, before climbing into his car again at around 10:15 p.m., this time hitting a cyclist in her 20s who sustained more serious injuries, Sankei quoted police as saying. Ninomiya fled the scene again, before finally being arrested by police on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police say Ninomiya's blood alcohol level was found to be more than four times over the legal drink driving limit. During police questioning, Ninomiya was quoted as saying that he doesn't remember anything.© Japan Today
