Police said Tuesday they have arrested a 42-year-old man for committing two hit-and-run driving offenses while drunk earlier this month.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Ryuji Ninomiya, had been drinking on Dec 4 at two different hostess bars before attempting to drive his car. Sankei Shimbun reported that he then collided with another driver at around 8:30 p.m. and fled the scene. Police say the driver of the other vehicle, a woman in her 60s, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Ninomiya then went to another hostess bar and continued to drink, before climbing into his car again at around 10:15 p.m., this time hitting a cyclist in her 20s who sustained more serious injuries, Sankei quoted police as saying. Ninomiya fled the scene again, before finally being arrested by police on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police say Ninomiya's blood alcohol level was found to be more than four times over the legal drink driving limit. During police questioning, Ninomiya was quoted as saying that he doesn't remember anything.

Fear and loathing in Tokyo

42 years old?? Sounds old enough to know better, maybe would make a nice poster child, a good example by letting him rot in jail for the rest of his alcoholic life. This idiot is just lucky he did not kill anybody with his car being all drunk, and says he does not remember, too bad!! I bet the poor 60 year old woman who he hit can not forget! So why does this article not add WHERE in TOKYO this fool was arrested?? These HOSTESS BARS should also be held accountable for getting him all drunk and letting him try to go drive while completely wasted! Tokyo needs to change these laws ASAP!!

Uh huh. Must be the default answer to everything.

Take his license and his car. Permanently.

Throw the proverbial book at him.

Have the hostess bar mamas been pulled as well? That's the law these days.
Ms. Alexander
If the bar knew he was driving, then they should be fined or have their alcohol license revoked. But he could have lied and said he's not driving. Who's to tell...
I agree with the_harper - they should take his license permanently.

Ah, yes! You have to love the respect for the law.

Exactly. He should never drive, period. Being allowed to steer a 2-ton fast moving piece of steel around other humans is a privilege, not a right.

Interesting that they leave out his occupation

"During police questioning, Ninomiya was quoted as saying that he doesn’t remember anything."
So that's even more proof that he was blind drunk and needs to be prosecuted more seriously.

If you drink and drive, your vehicle becomes a weapon. He should be charged with attempted murder.

Two things will never change in life:
Drivers will ALWAYS use their cell phone while operating a motor vehicle Drivers will ALWAYS drink and drive. We got to live with this. Sad but true!Mirai Hayashi
Harsher punishment for drunk drivers!

"had been drinking Dec 4 at two different hostess bars"
I'll bet neither hostess asked him if he was driving or told him he shouldn't drive.

I bet he had a very hard time getting the keys in the ignition. Where is the breath test in the car?

Anybody know how 4 times the limit in Japan relates to .12 bac ( the old US limit)?
