Man arrested for urinating in beer cans and leaving them on side of road

This summer, the stench of crime has been tainting the air in Kayaba Higashimachi, a neighborhood of  Gifu City. Since late June, there have been at least 12 cases of someone leaving bento boxes and beer cans out on the street. Even worse, these containers are no longer filled with nourishing meals and delicious alcohol, but with human urine and excrement.

However, police working out of the Gifu Kita precinct believe they have found the source of both the violations and the bodily waste materials. On the night of Aug 23, at about 11 p.m., a 62-year-old man was arrested leaving six beer cans filled with urine on the street. When questioned by police, he admitted that the urine was his, explaining: “The toilet in my apartment is broken and I didn’t know what to do with my waste. I figured if I put it in empty bento boxes or beer cans and left them on the road, someone would take care of them for me.”

Not every reason counts as an excuse, though, and the man was placed under arrested for violating the Waste Disposal Law.

While anyone who’s experienced plumbing problems in a one-toilet home can sympathize with the difficulty of such a situation, there are better ways to handle it than the method the man used. Using the bathroom at your local convenience store, supermarket, or train station are all wiser choices. When those aren’t options, maybe because you’re feeling the call of nature late at night or with such intensity that you have to take care of business right now, as gross as using your shower or sink may be, they’re still less disgusting than leaving cans and boxes of the end-products of your digestive process around town like the world’s nastiest treasure hunt. It’s also hard to feel too bad for someone who hasn’t sorted out their toilet problems but is still apparently regularly drinking beer at home, since knocking back cold ones is a sure way to make sure you need to use the bathroom in the very near future.

While the man is currently only being charged with the Aug 23 incident, the other cases, when arranged geographically, appear to have the man’s home as their center. Because of that, investigators are looking into the highly likely possibility that the man was also behind the other illegal dumping cases.

I was expecting him to say I was drunk and couldn't remember. Even what he did was still gross, at least he didn't pee on someone else's property.

Right, but leaving behind his "droppings" is just as bad, if not worse, than someone's dog dropping's being left behind! And he DID leave it on "someone's" property!

I feel sorry for the workers who had to clean up after him!

I figured if I put it in empty bento boxes or beer cans...

I expect the bentos weren't for urine. Gives new meaning to a Dai-Ben

Presumably if he could afford beer on a regular basis he could afford to get a toilet fixed.

Shouldn't he call his landlord and ask him to fix it?

Sweet and sour Bento

That type of thing could really piss off the neighbors.

I remember where I once worked, (IMO the locals of no known occupations etc., were hating at that location) a covert miscreant(s) was leaving stools and used toilet paper near the entrance of the workplace in the parking lot. The fuzz was summoned and they just looked at it, wrote down some things and told an elderly office women from another office to help clean it up. It happened a few more times, then finally stopped.

BTW that location has about 4 subway entrances on this relatively short street. I can imagine how quickly peeps can come from a myriad of different areas and render exploits, and jet out of one of those subway entrances.Things had gotten so bad from many different crimes that they once setup a temporary police box in the middle of that street.

He is either one lazy person or just lying through his teeth. There are literally public toilets everywhere and also in stores which are open all day. I bet he enjoy doing this because he didn't get caught yet.

Disgusting and brilliant at the same time....

Whacko!

My guess is he’s a retired truck driver and misses pissing in pet bottle while driving through a tunnel and tossing the bottle onto the side of the highway. These drivers must make it an art form with just the right wrist flick so it lands in plain site.

@fizzbit. Spot on. When walking my dog, the two most common things I see are truck driver bottles and discarded masks.

I agree. His excuse makes no sense. Public toilets, as well as a shower and sink at home. And the toilet has been broken for how long? Most likely another oddball fetish.

Gaiben would best describe case like this...

A someone who drives long distances on south western Japan's highways for work, I'd like to see the law applied to truck drivers who often throw their urine filled liter sized PET bottles out as they're driving. Witnessed the dumping violation many times. Disgusting.

I get it on long haul routes they need to relieve themselves and many have devised what military aircrew call "piss tubes" into empty plastic bottles. Just take the damned bottles with you to the next SA/PA and dump it in the toilets there.

But no, easier to adopt the same ignorant and selfish attitude as the guy in this story, "Someone else will clean it up." Fine. Any driver caught dumping gets a fine and a punishment of cleaning up a 10 km stretch of heavily trafficked highway.

Free drinks for the homeless?

I find it hard to believe that a 62 year old does not know what to do about a broken toilet. Therefore I think he was doing it on purpose as he can't think of anything else he can do in his life...

He could've just left happoshu there. Would've been the same thing

Here's a better idea for the next time! Kitty litter! Do your business in it, and throw it out like people would do with cat litter! Thank me later!

Also.......

What a shitty thing to do. Well, now urine for it, pal!

This got posted? I get the funny puns, but usually this would be filed under "inappropriate".

Too tight to call a plumber obviously.

Leaving his pee in cans so some homeless people or dogs can drink it up. Disgusting, not to mention he's littering with those cans. Yeeeccchhh.

Thanks Sir Bentley, I missed that. Golden!

I got a lift home by my boss once we were under a motorway and the side of the road was littered with pet bottles containing a yellow liquid....I said that's not good! He said bloody Chinese! Best not start a fight with the boss. No Japanese man would ever discard bodily waist in a public place! Yer right.
