Man arrested in Osaka for allegedly sexually assaulting junior high school girl at hotel

Police in Osaka have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of sexually assaulting a junior high school girl at a hotel in early December.

According to police, Ryo Shirai, a firefighter with the Osaka City Fire Department, is accused of luring the girl, whom he met on social media, to a hotel where he allegedly sexually assaulted her, NTV reported.

Police said Shirai arranged to pick the girl up with his car and drove her to a hotel where they had sex. Afterwards, the girl told her parents what had happened and they contacted police.

Police said Shirai has partially denied the allegation and quoted him as saying, “We had sex, but I thought she was 16 years old.”

The Osaka City Fire Department released a statement on Thursday, saying: "This is an act that has severely damaged public trust, and we deeply apologize for it. We will take further measures to ensure discipline among our employees and strive to restore the trust of the citizens."

That’s awful! What website did they meet on??

Even if he thought she was 16, isn't that still underage?

He has a strong defense.

"Man arrested in Osaka for allegedly sexually assaulting junior high school girl at hotel.'

please, allow my ignorance but I have to ask this, regardless of age, why should a lady or a girl be lured to a hotel by a stranger and agree, to play bingo?

This is bad and seems pretty clear-cut. She did not go willingly, was underage to begin with, and, as such, cannot consent. Three big strikes. He needs to do some serious jail time.

Where does it say she did not go willingly?

Not defending him but just pointing out error by this poster.

From Merriam Webster: lure- an inducement to pleasure or gain. He lured the girl for his own pleasure It says so in the article. She did not go willingly. The error is on your side.

Both of them has to held accountable, the adult for luring the underage girl. And the girl for reporting to her parents after visiting the hotel meaning the damage was already done. If she was honest with them initially, incidents like this are avoidable.

AND, THE HOTEL who checked them in said nought, mmmh she did not raise any doubts to the desk. something not right. 16yrs got common sense or yen sense. apologies if I am wrong, fire fighter, "we had sex"

Fire him of course. tighten up on social media, or ban it for under 18's .

It’s not sexual assault. It’s At least carnal knowledge of a minor. I’d also call it rape of a minor.

Why would you have a need to know that?

I do not excuse the guy, but where did you get the "not go willingly" from?
