Police in Nagoya have arrested a 62-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 85-year-old mother by injecting supplements dissolved in water into his mother's IV drip, causing her death.

According to police, Naoyuki Ito is accused of using a syringe to inject the supplements into his mother Haruyo’s IV drip bottle while she was in a hospital sometime between August 8 and 9, NTV reported. This caused Haruyo to contract bacteremia, a condition in which bacteria are mixed into the blood. She died from aspiration pneumonia at around 8 p.m. on Aug 23.

Police quoted Ito as saying, “I injected the supplements into the IV drip. I just wanted to help my mother get better but I don't know how the bacteria got in.”

The supplements are powdered and are said to improve immunity. Ito purchased them online.

Doing intravenous procedure without proper medical training, that's how you shortened someone life.

I wonder what the exact charges are. It seems as if he killed her accidentally, while intending to help, not harm. So, the JP equivalent of negligent homicide would most likely be in order.

Seems he won't be getting his hands on the money anytime soon, surely not before the Govt.!

He clearly tried to help and unfortunately "poisoned" hs mother by injecting her with unsterelized mixture.

I have never heard of bacteremia. Is that a new term for septicemia (sepsis) ?

I injected the supplements into the IV drip. I just wanted to help my mother get better but I don't know how the bacteria got in.

How did he make it to 62 years old with that level of stupidity?
