Police in Higashi-Osaka said Saturday they have arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of arson and destruction of property after he allegedly set eight fires in succession early Friday.
According to police, Teruyuki Hatakeyama, a civil engineer who lives in the neighborhood, set fire to motorbikes, bicycles, an electric wheelchair and a mail box outside apartment buildings within a 500-meter radius in Higashishikiricho between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Friday, Fuji TV reported.
Police said Hatakeyama, who was identified through street surveillance camera footage, has admitted to the charge.
