Police in Tokyo have arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to rape a sleeping woman in her apartment.
According to police, the incident occurred in July in Koganei City, Tokyo, Fuji TV reported. Police said Makoto Miyazaki, who works at a private university, managed to enter the woman’s first-floor apartment through the balcony window, which was unlocked.
Miyazaki then went into the bedroom of the woman who is in her 20s. Miyazaki is accused of groping her as she slept. The woman woke up and screamed. She grabbed Miyazaki by his chest and pushed him out onto the balcony.
Miyazaki fled the scene on a bicycle which was identified after an analysis of street surveillance camera footage.
Police said Miyazaki, who does not know the woman, has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying,“I was able to peep into her bedroom before and when I saw her sleeping in her underwear this time, I couldn’t resist.”

Think you’ve summed it up, at least, for now *@nandakandamanda 4:38pm: “***This news has largely been buried*, it seems.”(yet again, eh.*)
Thanks in advance for any additional followup.

No background information appearing so far. This news has largely been buried, it seems.
Video of him here: https://news.tv-asahi.co.jp/news_society/articles/000228075.html
The police commented that they are investigating him, but also calling on people to lock their windows. That is one less crime they can charge him with, i.e. 'breaking and' entering.

You covered the ‘motive & opportunity’ with that story @nandakandomanda 1:53pm. Was looking more for the “means” her used to find his ‘taipu’ and IF there’s ANY connection to his employment, occupations, etc and her ‘daily’ life re: @9/10 11:10am queries (ie. He took his bike there.) You’ve been diligent in the past with gathering additional ‘facts’ and info from other, local Japanese media. We’ll see if the university connection pans out. Thanks for ANY follow-up.

Imagine. One-room tatami apartment. Hot summer, she prefers not to sleep with air-con on. Opens small barred kitchen window, and French windows with mosquito screen to get a through-breeze. Long curtains move around in the wind. Perv checks out ground-floor single women, cruises round at night looking for exciting opportunities to peek.
This guy is unusual in that he crossed a line that a large percent of them would probably not dare to. That she was able to push him out of her room, suggests that he was surprised and now meek once his romantic bubble had suddenly burst and reality had set in.
Mark
Good for her, hope he gets fired then locked up for a while.

It depends, it's about your needs. Elderly people, handicapped people often prefer the ground floor because of the use of a wheel chair and to avoid stairs.
Many newly constructed houses in Japan are equipped for the ground floor with rolling shutters for all large windows/balcony doors or have tinted windows with grills to make it difficult to look inside and to enter.

Entering a private room through the balcony, trying to rape an unknown woman... This man is dangerous and has to be locked away for a while. Jail cannot be avoided in this case.
lolozo79
Perhaps he was working on his thesis, and wanted to test out a woman's reaction to a stranger entering one's premises unexpectedly ? Jokes aside, I'm glad this perv was arrested.
garypen
Not always, apparently.

unles You can afford to use air conditioning so you can keep you windows close and lock stuff like this would not have happened. Buy this lady a air conditioner for having the guts to shove a man to a balcony fearlessly

Not “confused” but really ODD when some often question the victim’s account yet routinely chooses to add ‘wild’ suppositions to an assailant’s admitted actions?:
Seems just a chance to get some attention by casting aspersions at a victim and not really to make a point at all:
Really ? - “l**aughing out l**oud” ?? - Sad if someone finds RAPE and SEXUAL ASSAULT humorous.

I am confused here too! I wonder how anyone would assume the guy was so big that the woman could not have moved out on the balcony, and for that matter no mention whatsoever of "several rooms", as many, if not most Japanese bedrooms have a balcony just outside the room anyway.
Not to mention too, that the woman was in shock, and with adrenalin running, she very well could have been very petite and still tossed him out the door!
I am totally confused how anyone could make any assumptions like the ones you made, based upon the article alone!

Hey cheers to OnlyFans and other similar services.
However, when you get down to it, porn often becomes an addiction (it has been chronicled how it affects the brain to do so; essentially it gets the viewer hooked on the dopamine rush, which can only be replicated if new and progressively more extreme content is viewed. Once hooked, the viewer is hard-pressed to resist viewing more often and for longer, and will lash out or obfuscate when called out), so viewers will likely bypass the tamer sites and will invariably seek out what they want- thrills, at whatever costs to whoever (only exists in images on a screen, the viewer doesn't know or care whether someone's been tricked or coerced), doesn't matter once you've become an addict.

I am very confused about how ‘attractive’ that young woman would really be and what weight in kilotons she must have, so she can easily grab a man by the chest and move him in tired condition out of several rooms and over the balcony. Strange and somehow unrealistic story so far. lol

I am pretty sure we are in the same boat regarding the benefits of legalized prostitution/better protections thereof. Where we maybe differ is I don't think pornography itself is inherently the problem either.
Obviously illegally obtain pornography should be illegal, and there absolutely is a discussion to be had about better monitoring of such practices (such as recent issues a big name hub site recently have had). It is why I have long been an advocate of content creators being able to upload things themselves, via services like OnlyFans. It helps democratize the process and is a lot less open, though not immune to, exploitation I feel. It is far less likely the creator is being exploited in a situation where they are managing the account themselves.
Maybe a little bit tangential here though, as we don't know what sparked this particular person to these actions. It may be a much more relevant conversation if we find out the police raided his house and found a hard-drive full of voyeuristic pornography.

Back on topic please.

I don’t believe this part.
She sleeps in the first floor of her apartment, with enough light falling on her body for someone outside to be able to see the situation?
She doesn’t have curtains?
No way.

Fabulous police work finding the guy through the identification of his bicycle through the bohan cameras.

schools here needs to do a better job on getting more boys and girls to interact more... so that these boys learn that girls are human beings too ...and not a piece of meat where when you can't resist, you just go and help yourself... disgusting!

@Addfwyn
Well, here we need to distinguish between sex work, i.e. two people enter into a mutually-agreed upon transaction, and coerced rape on camera/human trafficking/coerced prostitution.
Obviously, there's a huge difference, and I am sure you are not advocating for the wider acceptance of the latter (which occurs when more people get into viewing porn).
I agree that with prostitution, if there were more acceptance of it leading to its legalization and government regulation (as in the Netherlands), it could potentially actually disenfranchise the criminal syndicates which currently control it.
The problem with porn is that anyone can upload videos to the net, and we know from several previous news reports that sex offenders often record their crimes and do so, which encourages others to follow suit (under the impression, rightly or wrongly, that relatively few offenders are actually caught / sentenced to a harsh punishment).

An excuse. What ever happened to 'Kissing Bandits' we used to see on TV? It only gets worse all the time. And this creep is old enough to know better. Put him away.

Willing to wager on several things here: The victim was/is a univ student; Miyazaki did ‘know’ her prior to the incident; and, his work at said “private” university gives him access to pursue his prurient interests ‘after hours’.
[Those street cameras are really remarkable to id the bike registration number, aren’t they?]
Will wait for the more thorough and diligent commenters here to always disclose some additional, pertinent information from other available sources. Always looking forward to their updates to these, somewhat anemic, ‘preliminary’ Crime stories.Addfwyn
@Legrande I know you have an ongoing agenda against sex work for whatever reason, but the solution to those problems is more acceptance (not less) of sex work, so that sex workers can get the kind of protection that they should have always had.
Not the problem in this case either way.
Much like rape is often about power more than sexuality, I would wager that this guy was more into the excitement of peeping and not getting caught, which he probably couldn't replicate elsewhere. Glad he was caught though. At the absolute least I hope he won't be working in a university environment anymore.

Couldn't this PoS just use the internet to...cater to his urges like everyone else? Hope the university fires him.
Doesn't seem to do the job, does it...or does it?
This "just sublimate by viewing porn" is repeated ad nauseam, yet the sex crimes keep piling up. Despite this people refuse to want to face the reality that it is precisely porn which is often the driver of this behavior, reflected in the popularity of pretend-rape and actual rape/groping videos on porn sites.
And speaking of actual rape, many survivors of the Jpn porn industry have come forward and related that they were tricked/pressured into porn, resulting in them being raped on camera. Because porn, if you haven't noticed, is heavily intertwined with criminal syndicates, and has been linked to human trafficking as well.

Wish she had rendered him unconscious .

This kind of behaviour always escalates. Peeping Tom to attempted rape in one small step. Sex offenders register, please.

Chibukun...
Many people think this but actually it's the THIRD floor.
Japanese TV had a show about home security. (or how to break in) depending on how you watched it.
People on the first floor are very security conscious and always lock doors and windows. Second floor residents are careful too. But those on the third floor think they are safe, leaving windows open. Its quite easy to climb from balcony to balcony or shin up a drainpipe.
Police talk for traced from his cell phone.
