Police in Osaka have arrested a 40-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of fatally abusing his 5-month-old son in January.

According to police, Ryuji Nakagawa is accused of throwing his son to the floor between 3 and 6 a.m. on Jan 2, causing the child to suffer brain damage, resulting in his death two days, TV Asahi reported.

Police quoted Nakagawa, who was arrested on Wednesday, as saying, "He wouldn't stop crying, so I threw him to the floor."

Nakagawa called 119 and told the paramedics who arrived at the scene immediately after the incident that he had dropped his child.

However, based on the results of an autopsy and other factors, the police believe that Nakagawa intentionally assaulted the boy.

At the time of the incident, the baby’s mother was sleeping in another room.
