Man arrested over death of roommate after repeatedly slapping his face

Police in Yokohama have arrested a 54-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of causing the death of a male acquaintance, who was in his 50s, after slapping his face multiple times at a lodging house where they shared a room.

Police said Ichiro Harashima told them, “I tried to wake him up after he fell asleep while drinking alcohol.” Kyodo News reported that incident occurred between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Harashima called 119 after his friend did not regain consciousness. The victim was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police said the victim’s face was swollen and he had a broken nose.

It's more than slapping.

Please correct the typo. It should be “make acquaintance who WAS in his 50s”

Moderator: It has been corrected. Thanks for pointing it out.

Never knew you could be slapped to death

"Slapped" repeatedly with a closed fist?

I tried to wake him up after he fell asleep while drinking alcohol.”

It's possible that another factor could be that the poor man may have lost consciousness, chocked in his own vomit (and possibly blood because of the assault) while unconscious.

Slapping does not cause a broken nose. Still, a change from the usual "I was drunk" excuse.
