Man arrested over deaths of two daughters

Police in Sodegaura, Chiba Prefecture, have arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of killing his two daughters by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Nobuya Amaha, an office worker, is suspected of burning coal briquettes in the bathroom at his residence in Sodegaura City and killing his daughters, Sae, 23, and Nami, 22, with carbon monoxide poisoning on Monday morning, Fuji TV reported.

On Monday, Amaha sent an email to his relatives which suggested he was suicidal. Police said the email read: "Thank you for everything you have done. We cannot hold out any longer.”

After the relative notified police about the email, officers went to Amaha’s residence where he and his two daughters were found unconscious in the bathroom. They were taken to hospital where Sae and Nami were pronounced dead.

Police said Amaha has admitted to the charge and said that his wife died of illness last May and the family was depressed about their future. He said he wanted to die with his daughters.

Sad, just sad.

The way this article reads, it was not a murder suicide. It was a mass suicide.

I think you're right.

"Safety Japan" strikes again.

Why are so many people in Japan not equipped with the skills necessary to deal with normal loss, grieving and pain?! Is society teaching people that pain is overcome by killing yourself?

Disgusting. Fowl. I can't stand reading about these things. RIP

The two daughters must have been incapacitated before being placed into the bathroom . . . . surely, they would've tried to escape the smoke.

What a sad end. From reading this one would assume a suicide pact, all too common in Japan If afraid there are far more questions than answers in this case. R.I.P.

his wife died of illness last May and the family was depressed about their future.

I am aghast at his thoughtless actions. If this were a father of two toddlers and all alone in Japanese society with no real form of social services as compared to the USA maybe I could understand his depression somewhat, but not to the point where he tried to kill his daughters.

killing his daughters, Sae, 23, and Nami, 22,

But when I read how old they are, I am fuming. These are grown women ready to start their own lives and move on. Unless I am missing something where they both were somewhat disabled or unable to care for themselves, these two ladies could have made it on their own. But this guy was just too selfish probably with the fact that the wife is no longer there to care for him, and he didn't want to be left alone when his daughters moved on.

Very sad for the loss of the lives of the two daughters. I get the feelings of sadness of losing a parent like the girls may have faced, but it's not worth me wanting to be so depressed as to want to end my life, and the father should have been stronger and wanted to live on.

Not sure, maybe I've read too much murdering but I think of it as fishy. The girls were already adult and can fend for themselves unless of course disabled. Perhaps the man knows that with the kind of reasoning he has, he'd be given a light sentence and be out just in time for his pension. Who knows?

Something is missing from this story. So vague. Anyone know. Frustrating to read that a 22 and 23 year old just let their father kill them the way he did.

like disillusioned said its a mass suicide. What can they arrest him for?

“Thank you for everything you have done. We cannot hold out any longer.”

Never have I had the urge to want to punch someone so hard for such a selfish and malicious act. Plain justice won't suffice.

@Godfather

He must have waiting until the small hours when they were fast asleep. Open the door and put a couple of burning bricks inside. Close the door…it's really that simple. They would have known nothing. Lethal stuff.

"his two daughters were found unconscious IN THE BATHROOM"

I don't know many twenty-something women who sleep IN THE BATHROOM!! ;-)

Slap on the wrist like Japanese mothers? Maybe not. Strange.

I thought the daughters would be little girls, but two women in their 20s?

Prayers for the family.
