Police in Sapporo on Sunday arrested a 60-year-old man on suspicion of abandoning the bodies of his wife and son at their home in Sapporo and added they expect to change the charge to one of murder.
According to police, Masahito Nagaoka turned himself in at a police station in Toyohira Ward at around 6 p.m. on Saturday, saying two members of his family were dead at his home and that he wanted to pay for his crime, Fuji TV reported. Police went to his home and found the dismembered bodies of his wife, 58, and their 19-year-old son in the bathtub.
Police said both had stab wounds were confirmed dead at the scene. Nagaoka has so far given no reason for killing the two, police said.

How would the government be able to stop something like this from happening? It's not like he would have gone to City Hall and said "I'm planning to stab my wife and son. Can you help a brother out?"

More info needed but it COULD be a case of the wife and son wanted to leave him and his pride got damaged. Just speculation and going from other such crimes, like the murder/arson case last year.

Would it be reported if the son had down syndrome?, otherwise I find it hard to see how a man of that age could take out a 19 year old. Oh to have more details...
