Police in Yoshikawa, Saitama Prefecture, said Sunday they have arrested a 62-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving resulting in death after the car he was driving hit a motorcycle. The 55-year-old motorcyclist died later in hospital.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:50 p.m. Saturday at an intersection with no traffic lights, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said Satoshi Sasaki, a carpenter, was driving his car when it hit the motorbike driven by Yoshihiro Shimojima.

After hitting the motorbike, Sasaki kept going and returned to his home nearby. After about five minutes, he contacted police and returned to the scene where he was arrested. Shimojima was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries later on Saturday night.

Sasaki was quoted by police as saying he didn’t notice the motorbike crossing in front of him until it was too late.

One important thing is left out of this article: the suspect admitted he did not stop at the stop sign, so it is not a matter of a motorcycle making a crazy stunt, the guy is 100% at fault.

Life in prison? Come on.

In what developed country anywhere in the world would you get a whole life tariff for a hit and run death?

Life in prison please. Cowardly loser

He did not intend to kill the guy, and he turned himself in after running away initially.

Do you want to give life sentences for everything? Youd need a lot of prisons then.

Life in prison !? a bit over the top don’t you feel ?

While the run was deliberate, the hit was an accident.

A man just got 17 yrs for killing his mother & dismembering her body, so he ain’t gonna get life.

This could mean the motorcyclist pulled out in front of him giving him no chance to stop.

In which case - in this land of collective responsibility - he'd still be automatically blamed.

No excuse for hit and run. Throw the book at this guy, please.

Everybody should have a dash cam installed. I’d even go as far to suggest they should be mandatory.

What happened to compassion for the fellow man? When he hit the man on the bike why didn't he stop and call for help instead of going home and then coming back to the scene and contacting the police. Perhaps that little time could have saved the poor bikers life. Also his excuse of telling the police he didn’t notice the motorbike crossing in front of him until it was too late.

Involuntary manslaughter, hit and run, failing to obey a traffic signal, maybe reckless driving too. I feel really bad for the motorcycle rider and his family.
