Police in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, said Tuesday they have arrested a 24-year-old man over the hit-and-run death of a 19-year-old woman whom he met on an online dating site.
According to police, the woman, identified as Yukie Yatsugi, was found on the street at around 2 a.m. Monday morning, after having been hit by a car. Police said she was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead, TV Asahi reported.
Police were able to trace the driver of the car, Yuya Seo, after a witness noted the license plate and contacted police. According to the witness, Yatsugi had stood in front of Seo's car, trying to prevent him from driving into the parking lot of the condo where she lived. AFter the car knocked her down, it backed up and left the scene, the witness told police, according to TV Asahi.
Seo told police as saying that he met Yatsugi through an online dating site, and that they only met for the first time on the night of the incident. He told police there was trouble between them, but that he didn't mean to kill her.© Japan Today
