Police in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, said Tuesday they have arrested a 24-year-old man over the hit-and-run death of a 19-year-old woman whom he met on an online dating site.

According to police, the woman, identified as Yukie Yatsugi, was found on the street at around 2 a.m. Monday morning, after having been hit by a car. Police said she was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead, TV Asahi reported.

Police were able to trace the driver of the car, Yuya Seo, after a witness noted the license plate and contacted police. According to the witness, Yatsugi had stood in front of Seo's car, trying to prevent him from driving into the parking lot of the condo where she lived. AFter the car knocked her down, it backed up and left the scene, the witness told police, according to TV Asahi.

Seo told police as saying that he met Yatsugi through an online dating site, and that they only met for the first time on the night of the incident. He told police there was trouble between them, but that he didn't mean to kill her.

I don't know about his claim of "not meaning to",

trying to prevent him from driving into the parking lot of the condo where she lived. Sounds like he had done something to seriously bother her and she stood up for herself. He got mad and hit her with his vehicle. Poor girl, only 19 too.

Met, fought, then killed her all in the first night? I find that hard to believe. Why would she try to prevent him from entering her parking lot if they hadn't already had a relationship that went sour? Why not just go home and lock the door? No, I am not blaming the victim, just doubting the guys story.

I didn't mean to make the second paragraph a quote entirely, only the part explaining she tried to prevent him from entering her condo. Could be they had a relationship, broke off, man used alias on dating site to talk to her again and when she found out, well anyway. It's sad to see someone so young die over what will end up being such a petty little argument.

Side note I hate how you can't go back and edit a comment you made or post right after with the corrections.

As has been mentioned before, there IS the possibility to "correct" one's text, it's called "Preview"

Hit and run? More like vehicular homicide I think.

Online dating sites are like gambling houses (casinos), you take a chance based on reasonable assumptions (reading a bluff) of the Girl/Guy through online chat, meeting them in person is a risk, but you take it, betting on the win (meaningful relationship). If the relationship goes South, or worse, the Dating Wesbsite i.e The House (assuming it is a paid service) always wins, regardless.

So, what was going on that she was standing in front of his car blocking it from entering her condo car park? Seems like he was lining her up for a bit of 'you can't say no to me' action. These dating sites are very dangerous. I'm sure there are some well mannered and genuine people on them, but there are also a lot of loony groomers on them too. I guess this guy was one of the latter. Sadly, because she is dead there is only his word of the events that led up to her death. However, it doesn't really matter what he says cos he is gonna do 5-10 in the pen.

Maybe it is just me but the first date should be done in public like near a train station, mall or cafe. This day in age, you can't just hop in a guy's car whom you never met.

Since this is Japan, shouldn't it be a 19 year-old girl? She wasn't legally an adult.
