Police in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, said Monday they have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving resulting in death after the car he was driving hit and killed a 55-year-old woman.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Fuji TV reported that the suspect, Kenichi Yoshida, was driving his car when he hit Kimie Kanbe. The woman suffered extensive injuries and was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Yoshida kept going but a witness noted the license plate of his car and contacted police who arrested the suspect at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Yoshida was quoted by police as saying he remembers hitting something but did not think it was a person.

Right, like too drunk to recall. Others may disagree, but in my opinion, if you kill someone while driving drunk (this case or any other) it's the same as premeditated murder and should be treated as such.

No one puts a gun to your head and forces you to drink, neither do they do the same to force you to drive. The individual has made the choice knowing fully that it is against the law. Death in kind would be too nice for this guy.

Im with Yubaru,

You make your choice and roll the dice, who knowingly hits an object and keeps going? I once hit something while taking a left turn and my heart stopped it turned out to be a traffic cone had blow from the pavement into the road but i still got out to check even if it was to check my car.

Just because he didn't think it was a person! Regardless of what or who, just think. I bet he knew he hit someone, tried to make off but luckily someone caught his number plate before he could get away. Another diamond of an excuse.

glad he was caught i am sorry for the lady may she rest in peace and her family find comfort. He should be required to pay for the funeral ceremony at the very least.

I think its a BS excuse. How do you hit a person and not know?? Unless she was lying on the street for some reason..

Aly Rustom, actually it's quite easy, if you've drunk enough.

But he was sober enough to remember hitting SOMETHING... he must have seen her.
