Man arrested over murder of 72-year-old father

Police on Friday arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly killing his 72-year-old father at their house in Odawara, Kanagawa Prefecture.

Police said they received an emergency call at about 4 a.m. Friday from a woman saying that her husband had been stabbed, Sankei Shimbun reported. When police and emergency services arrived at the scene, they found the victim, Takayuki Seto, bleeding from a stab wound to the chest. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Seto's son Tsutomu, who also lives in the house, was quoted by police as saying he had stabbed his father but has so far not given a motive.

Odawara again? We've just had the school vandalism story and now this?

This murder sickens me... a (so far) motiveless killing of an old man by his son? Going by the excuses that a lot of the teenage parent killers give I wouldn't rule out the son being spiteful for the father not giving him money or something along those lines... just a wild guess.

RIP Takayuki.

Yes a tragedy, however is somebody not innocent until proven guilty and that will be for a court to decide.

And another in-family murder in Japan. It happens nearly every day! I don't even raise an eyebrow anymore.

He admitted to stabbing his father, so he's guilty. His motive will determine his punishment.
