Police have arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 73-year-old mother at their home in Komae, Tokyo.

According to police, they received a call at around 11 p.m. Sunday from a man saying he had fought with his mother, Fuji TV reported. When police went to the apartment, they found the body of Fumi Tamori lying on her bed. Police said she had been strangled by a white cloth, which was wrapped around her neck. A Buddhist sutra text was found on her body.

Tamori lived with her two sons, the suspect and his younger brother who is in his 30s. The older brother went missing Sunday night, but was found on a street in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, at around 5:50 a.m. on Monday morning. He was holding a knife and was taken into custody, police said.

Police said the man has admitted to killing his mother.

Meanwhile, Japanese media reported Monday that the suspect has visited a nearby koban several times since last December and that he seemed to be suffering from a stress-related disorder.

How could you lift a hand against the one who gave you life? Two guys living with their old mother, how much do you want to bet that they are both unemployed. I bet she finally got tired of it, and told them to get off their @sses and get a job.

he seemed to be suffering from a stress-related disorder

Nothing like having the police set up your defense for you. I'm sure it WAS stress-related. Stressed that he finally had to get off the sofa and look for a job

I cannot fathom this. I lost my mother when I was 13; I would have loved to have her in my life when I was 49. I'm 52 now. :(

I'm starting to think that prisons in Japan are just full of folk who have off'd family members and that's it.

Yep! Another one snapped even after police had recognised him as having a mental issue. Mental health care in Japan is only an 'after the fact' application. They do very little to treat the symptoms except, prescribe copious amounts of anti-depressants and sleeping tablets.

Caring for both the young and old are going to be Japan's Achilles heel.
