Man arrested over murder of woman found in Hyogo river in December

Police in Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture, have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of killing a 20-year-old woman whose body was found on a sandbar in the Kakogawa River last Dec 12.

According to police, Kazuaki Isono, a part-time worker, is suspected of beating Mashiro Oyama to death with a blunt object on Dec 7, Fuji TV reported. Police said Oyama's head had at least 10 wounds.

Police said Isono has admitted to the charge, saying he used a hammer to kill Oyama.

Oyama, who is from Osaka Prefecture, graduated from a vocational school in Kobe last April. At the time of her disappearance, she was currently working as a part-time employee and attending a voice actor academy.

Oyama, who lived alone, was last seen after finishing her part-time job at a bar on the morning of Dec 6. Her mother contacted police after being unable to reach her by phone or email.

Local media reported Friday that Oyama met Isono last summer when she was having financial trouble with an ex-boyfriend who owed her money. Isono helped her get the money back. Police believe there was a falling out between Oyama and Isono over the money and that Oyama's bank records showed that she withdrew large amounts of money on a few days up until the day before her death.

When police searched Oyama's apartment after her death, they found a note which said "If anything happens to me, there is a suspect, Ryunosuke." Police believe this may have been the name Oyama knew Isono by.

She withdrew one million JPY from her account the day before she disappeared, according to the J TV news.

Where in the world does a part-time barmaid save money like that?

Either she earned it on her back or got involved with some loan shark racket. Wanna place any bets on whether Isono and her ex are members of some chimp outfit?

i find this very disrespectful. when i was in high school i was able to save 百万円 working proper part time jobs it wasn't easy but it also wasn't difficult please be mindful 1m yen is not an impossible money to save

Glad they got him, and glad he can't skirt the consequences because he's over 19. Lock him up for life. Poor woman, RIP.

barmaid sounds so 19th century. she was just a waitress.

but i don't find it too hard for a 20-year-old to save $10,000. cheap rent, living off of cup ramen and not partying much. easily done.

You don't think it's possible for someone to save up $10,000? I fail to see what's so incredible.

Her parents gave her the money.

There's your Occam's razor.

As I said, any of an infinite number of other reasons.

Life has many kinds of people in many varied circumstances. There's also many ways to make money. Since you seem to only see one and can't fathom any other possibilities, I won't bother blabbing about it. You are absolutely right, there is no way this person could have saved $10,000!

Yeah, I'm agree with your comment that he seriously deserve to be lock up for life sentence, Smith!

Well, I just read this news in Japan Times & I know this was happened December last year!

I really feel sad after reading this news!

My condolences to Mashiro Oyama's family & friends!

Be cynical all you want. it could have been inheritance from grandparents, savings from summer jobs over a few years in high school, graduation gift from her parents, etc.

The young woman is dead. I prefer to be respectful.

Oh, I'm not questoning the money: it was there all right. But... if you think she saved that much money from her relatively short stint as an honest-to-God bar worker, I've got a bridge to sell you.

How do you know she hadn't saved the money over her entire life? How do you know she didn't start a company of some sorts as a teenager and save up cash? How do you know she wasn't just spoiled by her parents? How do you know she didn't just save all her money from part time jobs during school? How do you know she didn't have a relative who died and left her money? How do you know she didn't find the money one day and just not turn it in? How do you know it wasn't any of an infinite number of other reasons?

Still think you can save $10,000 in the two years since graduating high school?

You are making assumptions here. Where in the article does it that the money was accumulated over two years?

Saw this a$$wipe on the news. A regular chimpira who used the cash to buy a new motorbike. Rot in jail with no toys you piece of scum.

Yeah! Or any of an infinite number of other reasons.

When police searched Oyama’s apartment after her death, they found a note which said “If anything happens to me, there is a suspect, Ryunosuke.” Police believe this may have been the name Oyama knew Isono by.

You don't suppose the police would have checked that now, do you? You know, being investigators and investigating and all that.

Her parents gave her the money.

Perhaps. Oscar Wilde once remarked it was possible to judge a man by his enemies. Oyama lent her ex monies which he was loath to repay, and another male acquaintance retrieved the cash only subsequently to beat Oyama to death with a hammer. Extraordinary circumstances which preclude an infinite number of reasons.

"Saw this a$$wipe on the news"

He looked like the kind of guy who would smash a girl's head in with a hammer for a few yen...

He looked like he had been abused his whole life...

He looked like a regular Japanese chimpira!!

Saw this a$$wipe on the news. A regular chimpira who used the cash to buy a new motorbike. Rot in jail with no toys you piece of scum.

I called it first.

But, yeah, Mashiro Oyama deserved a lot better than that.

Wow, some pretty cold comments. The poor girl was killed. Have a heart... The guy in the news needs attitude adjustment in a big way.

All I am contesting is that she obtained that kind of money purely through part time bar work.

Who are you contesting? No one, nor the article, has claimed it was purely through part time bar work. You're the only one who has brought that up, and you went on to try to shoot it down.

Readers, how the victim acquired her money is irrelevant. That ends discussion on this point.

So, was it the man who was found in the river in December, or was it the woman? The lede is ambiguous.

she was having financial trouble with an ex-boyfriend who owed her money.

....and

When police searched Oyama’s apartment after her death, they found a note which said “If anything happens to me, there is a suspect, Ryunosuke.” Police believe this may have been the name Oyama knew Isono by.

Couldn't the name 'Ryunosuke' been the name of her ex-boyfriend?

She worked in a bar. Yaks run bars.

You do the maths!!...

All I am contesting is that she obtained that kind of money purely through part time bar work. If, under the circumstances, she had managed to scrape the money together, she would be nominated for the Scots' Parsimony of the Year Award. And, being a card carrying member of the Fagin fan club, it's unlikely that she'd lend anything more than the bus fare to anyone.

You're right, she had money alright and was a bit too flash about it. The spivs and thugs then came out of the woodwork looking for a payday.

No. Read again.

How much do you think part-time bar work pays? Now work out how much rent/food/bills/academy fees/social security/daily living expenses are. Still think you can save $10,000 in the two years since graduating high school?

Now I get it. You're saying that SHE was the loan shark lending the money out to the ex b/f and who then hired a boot boy to get the repayments out of the ex.

Things are starting to make sense at last.

Working weekends for minimum wage from 16-18... sure, it can be done if you live at home have no expenses!

Oyama lived alone and was attending an academy, all while working part-time. I find it hard to believe that anyone in her circumstances (i.e. relatively high expenses, low income from bar work) could save that kind of money unless someone else was paying these expenses or she had some other source of income.

Yeah! Or any of an infinite number of other reasons.

Lex parsimoniae, dear boy.
