Police in Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture, said Saturday they have arrested an unemployed 57-year-old man on suspicion of killing a 62-year-old woman in August.
According to police, the suspect, Makoto Akutagawa, 57, who lives in Kitanagoya City, entered the apartment of Yoko Watanabe on or around Aug 26, strangled her to death and then stole cash, Fuji TV reported. Watanabe's body was found on Aug 30.
Police said that Akutagawa's common-law wife had known Watanabe for several years.
Akutagawa, who was arrested Friday, has admitted to the charge, police said.

What's the point in writing that Akutagawa's common law wife have been aquintance of the victim? To veer away suspicion?

Just to confuse you and make you read the article three times until you realize it's totally irrelevant.
smartacus
It's probably relevant because it shows how Akutagawa knew the victim and that she wasn't just a victim chosen at random. That's my guess, anyway.
turbotsat
He's dastardly enough to kill his wife's acquaintances!!!

His victim was not random is why they gave this information.
