Police in Ebetsu, Hokkaido, said Monday they have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of killing the 33-year-old woman with whom he lived.
According to police, Takumi Yachi, a company employee, strangled Ruri Koide, a dental assistant, sometime late Saturday night at their house. Fuji TV quoted police as saying that Yachi called 119 at 8 a.m. Sunday and said he had strangled a woman.
Police and firefighters rushed to the scene and found Koide unconscious. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police said Yachi told them he strangled Koide after they got into an argument.
Police said Yachi and Koide had been living together since last spring.

Sounds like she wanted to break up with him and he couldn't let her go!

Um. Hokkaido.., yes, I think this case was influenced to no small extent by coronavirus. RIP.

Because of his turning himself in, his confession and cooperation (and assuming he has no criminal record), under Japan's formula for sentences he will get approximately 16 years confinement (and be out in 11 or 12 on parole) - still in his thirties and looking for another live-in girlfriend.
