Man arrested over sexual assault in elevator

Police in Tokyo have arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in the elevator of her apartment building in May.

According to police, Kazuya Takahashi, a restaurant employee residing in Edogawa Ward, followed the woman, who is in her 20s, from Nishi-Kasai Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line for about 20 minutes before midnight to her apartment, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said he got on the elevator with the woman and groped her breasts.

However, the woman resisted and Takahashi fled as soon as the elevator door opened. Police said Takahashi emerged as a suspect after they reviewed the apartment building's surveillance camera footage of the incident.

Policer said Takahashi has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he was initially looking for women who appeared to be easy targets for video voyeurism. He also told police he had filmed up another woman’s skirt and “touched her body as well.”

He seems to admit to some sort of sexual issues. I am 28 and open-minded, I think that all sexual practices where third parties are not harmed are OK. But this? This is unjustifiable. Indefensible. He followed her and assaulted her. What I don't understand is whether these kind of men (if can be called men) are prone to doing this out of sexual frustration or sadism. Because if for sexual frustration, then I should be locked up in a prison cell long ago.

I don't understand, perhaps due to my autism, some things of the world. And I can't understand behaviours such as this of using violence (for any mean), but for sexual gain makes me feel particularly revolt.

I am not a judge (or a psychiatrist to evaluate him), but I am for a punishment towards this man, therapy in case the justice system considers his future release and ASAP, mental health counseling to the victim. Sometimes, women get lost and forgotten in these cases.

Maybe the elevator segregation is not a bad idea after all

Let’s never forget ‘the victims’ in these stories. She’s need counseling and possibly have to move.

Immediately ADD him to the Japan’s 24-hour, Online, Public-accessible, National Sexual Offender Database.

His admitted crimes were increasingly escalating in severity: from voyeurism, to video voyeurism, to staking and now, sexual assault.

Indications are now he will seek more isolate places with opportunities with less-resistant targets, possibly children.

He needs incarceration, mental-health evaluations & counseling, rehabilitation and continuous state-supervision before he can re-enter society.

@snowy - you are absolutely right and I did not mean to make light of this but it was hard to resist considering the timing.

hmmmm, seems like an honest and stand up guy, talking about all the wonderful things he’s done in the past.

blame Japan. No real consequences for people like this, it’ll keep happening again and again and again and again……..

This is an advice if you feel someone is following you!? DO NOT LEAD them to your living place! not smart.

Instead stay away from your living area, contact the police, walk into a convvi. store, bar, a business, or any public place and wait for help, JUST DO NOT GO HOME!!!

Well he will now get an elevated sentence for more of his confessions.

"Man arrested over sexual assault in elevator"

At his age, one would think he would act like a gentleman instead of a high school boy fooling around on the playground.

Does his think that the women would take his foolishness as a flirtation?

Does he think this will impress the girl?

These kind of guys need to grow up and realize women are actually real people and not manga or anime.

Get a life and grow up!

Put 'Ladies only' and 'Men only' signs on the elevators.

How lucky! That could have made for a worse outcome. Aside from surveillance video, how did they find him? Was that his regular stop as well? Did someone know him?

As a father with two daughters in their twenties, I am glad this nutter was caught, as he seemed to be on the path to progressively more dangerous activities without this forcible intervention.
