Man arrested over stabbing incident outside train station in Tokyo

Police have arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed a 27-year-old man outside Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo on Friday afternoon.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 4 p.m. near the station’s west exit. Police said the suspect, Yasunori Sakamoto, of no fixed occupation, stabbed the other man in the stomach and thigh, Sankei Shimbun reported.

Police at a nearby koban arrested Sakamoto. He was quoted by police as saying he got irritated when the victim, whom he did not know, made fun of his mannerisms. He said he stabbed the man once and then ran after victim and stabbed him again.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was in a stable condition on Saturday, police said.

Maybe the .... man ... had strange mannerisms. Both are not so bright. Think?

With the Typhoon fast approaching Tokyo, you'd think both of these people would have had better things to do with their time.

Well, first of all, why was the victim making fun of the guys mannerisms? The victim doesn't sound too bright.

That sounds like the "victim" was bullying the attacker/defender for no reason! You don't blatantly make fun of a stranger because you don't know what they're capable of doing or how they're going to react! Lesson learned, I hope!

Seems more to me like we are only hearing one side of the story. I will reserve judgement until we hear what "the victim" has to say. Unfortunately, there will not be a follow up story, so we will never know.

" The victim" needs to be spoken to, too. Just because he is in hospital in a " stable condition " doesn't make him a victim.

Anywhere, not everywhere. You'd be hard pressed to find someone carrying a knife in any given area in Tokyo at any given time.

But just like anywhere in the world, that doesn't mean that there will never be anyone with a knife. Sadly, such a Utopia does not exist.
