A 23-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of 100,000 yen by two men in Tokyo’s Taito Ward, police said Tuesday.

According to police, the victim was walking from his parked car at around 2:30 a.m. on Monday when two men came from behind and pulled him to the ground, Sankei Shimbun. After beating the victim’s face, the pair went to the man’s car and took a bag containing approximately 100,000 yen in cash.

At the time, the man had left his girlfriend in the car to go to a nearby convenience store. She was not harmed.

Police said the suspects both appeared to be young, and one was wearing black clothing from head to toe during the attack.

I'm guessing that the dude who got robbed had been targeted for a while and is not just some random mugging. They probably tailed him from the ATM or a bank

I remember one time I was teaching a Wed. morning Japanese house wives' Eng. class here in Japan. Two of them came in late and they explained that they'd met a very old man sitting on the sidewalk bleeding from his head. They asked him if he'd fallen down, and he told them that somebody had hit him over the head. They asked him if the man stole anything from him and he said that the man took his bank book for a nearby bank. The ladies were pretty sharp. They called the bank immediately and told the bank about what happened to the old guy. The bank sent somebody right away to check the cash machines, and one young man at one of the machines took off running without any money. Sad that the poor old guy was viciously assaulted and hit on the head so hard that he was left bleeding, confused and sitting on the sidewalk. That old guy could have been killed or crippled just for money.

I always try to use ATMs inside the banks, or at least keep an eye on my surroundings. Especially in my own country! And by using my credit card for most payments, I don't need to use ATM that often, or withdraw large amounts.

I don’t think I’ve withdrawn cash in years.

These things are happening with frightening regularity these days. Things are not like the old days.

Well、it's just a matter of time till they catch the punks then.............

So let me get this straight.....................

The girlfriend saw the attack happening, and didn't call the cops immediately?

Or lock the car doors?

And why didn't he park IN the combini parking lot, instead of "a nearby one?"

And no one even touched the woman?

This story doesn't seem to be logical.

But then again, it is Japan. And they are J-Cops..........

You don't live in Japan then

This looks very much planned, not random.

Uh... okay. Some people get paid in cash and don't need to use an ATM for cash.
