Man attacks neighbors with kitchen knife over insult

Police said Tuesday that a 59-year-old man has been arrested for attacking his neighbors with a knife in Toyoake, Aichi Prefecture.

According to a Fuji TV report, police received an emergency call at 11:40 a.m. on Monday from a man reporting that his wife had been stabbed. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the suspect, who has been identified as Yasushi Kaneko, brandishing a kitchen knife. He was arrested for violation of the Firearms and Swords Control Law.

Fuji TV reported that Kaneko pushed his way into the apartment of a 74-year-old man living nearby and slashed him on the back of the head. Investigators say a 68-year-old woman and the building's 54-year-old landlord tried to intervene, before themselves being slashed on the side and the arm, respectively.

According to police, a 75-year-old woman then tried to attack Kaneko with an umbrella. Police said she apparently fell over during the scuffle. All four of the neighbors are said to have sustained injuries during the incident, but police said that none of the wounds are life-threatening.

Kaneko was quoted by police as saying the attack was provoked by one of the neighbors having insulted him. He is currently in hospital being treated for a fractured bone in his leg. According to a police spokesperson, Kaneko is out on bail until his treatment is complete.

Out on bail for attempted murder, or at the very least assault with a deadly weapon? Why was he only arrested for having the knife and not the actual attack (that he admitted!)?

Insulted him, eh? Lemme guess, they said he was nuts!

Sounds like he needs to be in a hospital for more than a broken leg.

A pity the guy hadnt studied the art of one upmanship and vocabalry, then he could have returned the insult in a war of words that would have left his neighbour, perplexed, bothered and bewildered.instead of attacking his neighbours with a knife.

I would have paid anything to have seen this fight. It sounds better than WWE. The 75 year old woman with the umbrella was the icing on the cake.

That's a relief. Fortunately, the guy didn't have a gun; otherwise, the results may have been different.

So the guy stabbed FOUR people and was merely arrested for violating the sword/firearms control law and let out on bail??

Ah, but if all four victims had had guns, they would have been able to defend themselves.......(or so some would have us believe)

Good on the lady who made creative use of her umbrella.

From the description, it was something out of an Laurel and Hardy movie.

Very true Disillusioned.

This man was "released" to get treatment at the hospital. It's called 釈放 (shakuhou )(to release) while bail is called

保釈 (hoshaku). There was no bail involved in this case.

Maybe the insult was them saying he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer...

unusually detailed listing of the weaponry employed in this incident.

Do older people usually go on a rampage like this?

Anyway, this guy will kill someone before the year is through and people will then quietly crawl out from behind hidden spaces and talk about how they thought, "He was a strange person", and the police will pretend that they had no way of knowing he would ever do such a thing, then a week later, when the umpteen dozens of reports made come to light will simply apologize and say, "Shou ga nai, ne".

Very good point.

Ah, but if all four victims had had guns, they would have been able to defend themselves.......(or so some would have us believe)

Good point. And I also feel that if all four victims had bulletproof vests and helmets on to go along with their guns (so that they don't end up accidentally shooting themselves), then they would have been able to defend themselves. After all, we all know it ain't like the movies where you can cleanly shoot your intended target to disable them.

Best to have good relations with your neighbors Right??

Elbuda Mexicano - Best to have good relations with your neighbors Right??

Unfortunately, in Japan it is best to have NO relations with your neighbors.

I'd bet it was over community fees. Maybe you know what I'm talking about. Those old ladies come-a-knockin at your door trying to collect 3- 5,000 yen. He probably didn't have it. Perhaps they said something nasty. Homeboy snapped. You mad?

Funny story. People being pushed over the edge. It's not saying it's right, but I understand.
