Police in Kaizuka, Osaka Prefecture, are looking for a man who broke into a 29-year-old woman’s apartment and tried to strangle her.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. Sunday. The woman, who lives alone, told police that she was wearing headphones, playing a TV video game, when the power in the apartment was suddenly cut off, Fuji TV reported. The woman went to the entrance to check on the circuit breaker, at which point a man appeared and started strangling her with a cord.

The woman fought the intruder off and ran out of the apartment. A neighbor who heard her screaming for help called police. The man had gone by the time police arrived.

The woman suffered light injuries to her neck. She told police she did not know the man and that he appeared to be in his 50s.

Wow. It sounds like a scene from a horror movie.

Jesus. How do you ever relax in your home again? I hope this lady gets a roommate.

How was he able to get into her apartment? Did he pick the lock? No deadbolt or push bolt?

Holy crap, that's horrific. how long had he been stalking her? Anybody who exhibits this kind of predatory behaviour with planned attacks, needs extra time in a secure institution. Women should not need to surround themselves with chains, locks, pepper sprays, personal alarms, and roommates, to live their lives. It is people like this man who should be locked away, not the people they prey on.

Oh, boy! There’s no shortage of crazies this summer. Glad she’s alright (kind of) and hope the cops can track down this creep before he attempts to strike again.

Im a little curious how he cut the power from the outside though. Is the circuit breaker outside?

This is why it's best to live with your parents until you are married.

I guess Japan has really lost that 'safe country' moniker after all the attacks in women, children and elderly these past few years. I hope she is OK.

@do the hustle - there is often a breaker box for individual rooms inside the front door, but it depends on the place. My gas and electric meters are outside my front door, and I know you can turn the gas off there; probably can turn off the electric somehow too.

I read it as he was INSIDE her apartment, since it says she went to the entrance, he attacked her, so she ran OUTSIDE the apartment, so he cut it from inside, and was inside when he attacked her. It is a little ambiguous though.

I shudder to think what might have happened to her if she hadn’t been awake at 2am. If she was sleeping she wouldn’t have noticed the power being cut, he may have attacked her as she slept which would be harder to escape from. Shivers. So scary.

What a nightmare! Worst part is they haven't caught him yet!

What the heck? Seriously? What is going on? You can't even play your video games in peace without a nutter trying to kill you.

Maybe she is an online gamer and he was bested by her online in a game, so he tracked her address to take revenge. I dealt with a crime case like this 3 weeks ago.

No, the only place it ranks low on the safety scale is in the head of those who make up a fake scale not based on actual facts.

Japan still ranks at the top of the rankings of the safest countries in the world when rankings are done using actual facts and numbers.
