Man beaten by intruders in Shiga home

Two men broke into a home and beat the 44-year-old man who lives there with a metal bat on Sunday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:35 a.m. at the home of Atsushi Sakata, a self-employed businessman, Fuji TV reported.

Police said Sakata, who lives alone, was asleep in his second-floor bedroom when he was awoken by the intruders. He was hit on the head by a metal bat but managed to get away in the struggle. He ran downstairs and went next door to ask his neighbor for help.

The two assailants fled the house empty-handed and got away in a black car driven by a third man.

Police said Sakata sustained head injuries but his condition is not life-threatening. The intruders entered Sakata’s house by smashing the glass on a back door

Sakata told police he did not know the men and described them as being in their 30s with short hair.

Hello Goodlucktoyou,

Speaking of security cameras, an acquaintance, had tried to have a city camera installed on his street in Tokyo because of the seedy characters roaming and hanging around his street at all kinds of hours. He was told to go to his community center, but was told by the community center that he needed more people who agreed with his suggestion, before they could put in a such a request to his ward office. I told him (in Japan), that they will probably put one up, after something happens.

I have weapons too. Gives a sense of security. Next is security cameras.

I always sleep with a hammer under my bed just for contingencies like this...

People need to be more cautious these days, due to the rising crime rate. Do not fall into a false sense of security.

Being cautious and not falling into a false sense of security is always good advice. But there is no rising crime rate.

I agree, doing business in Japan, can be flinty, not to mention the additional encumbrance

of quidnuncs, misanthropist, and vanquishers

He's right though, those are only your two opinions and not facts

I claimed that he and I had determined it's not commonplace. Our determinations are not the ultimate defining point on what is or is not fact. Many people determine things that are incorrect and therefore definitely not fact, all the time. My statement was that he and I had both come to that determination.

So it seems you're arguing against something I never said.

That ends this line of discussion.

He's right though, those are only your two opinions and not facts so if two buddies want to agree that your opinions are fact, well that's up to you isn't it

"I would definitely say it's not common place" and "That doesn't seem commonplace to me either". Are merely your opinions and not expressions of fact. So please don't include the rest of us in your "Now that we've determined that it's not commonplace" comment. We haven't determined anything.

Who was including you? Bit of an ego trip there. I was talking about Ricky and myself, who were both in agreement on the idea that it's not commonplace. You hadn't even weighed in on the thread at that point.

Do you even know what sarcasm is or how to read it?

Yeah, I use it regularly.

But that's not going to stop me from pointing out that the argument being attempted with with said sarcasm isn't supported by the facts available.

What happened isn't commonplace, and we don't have details on this specific case. Between the not being commonplace, and the lack of a proper data set from which to even judge what is commonplace to any decent level, it means that we have no idea whatsoever whether this guy knew the people who came in or not.

I can pull out multiple articles, from here in Japan, that show times when people were killed in their own homes by people they did not know. This happens. It's not very commonplace, but neither is having your home invaded in the first place.

@ stranger - "of course he didn't know them" is sarcasm indicating that he did

"it's commonplace for two guys to break into a home" is sarcasm indicating that is not

Do you even know what sarcasm is or how to read it?

As usual, the full story is not out there. And yet the theories are a flying.

Hope the victim makes a speedy recovery and the perps are found.

Stranger# yeah mate its common place for two guys to break into a house and beat a SELF employed dude with a baseball bat

I would definitely say it's not commonplace.

then leave empty handed.

That doesn't seem commonplace to me either.

Now that we've determined that it's not commonplace, I repeat , your sarcasm would seem to indicate that it's not a possibility that he knew them.

Do you know something about this man that we do not? Because some speculation about what is or isn't commonplace is not the means by which to judge what actually happened or not.

Stranger# yeah mate its common place for two guys to break into a house and beat a SELF employed dude with a baseball bat then leave empty handed. Cause and effect. He has been served for something that he has done and  cannot tell the police. Sorry for making the obvious  jump!

He should have made those payments to the loan-shark.

Of course he didn’t know them, nor have a clue what they wanted....
