Man enters elementary school, menaces girl after allegedly smoking herbs

Police said Tuesday they have arrested a man for trespassing on the premises of an elementary school in Tokyo's Nerima Ward after allegedly smoking quasi-legal herbs, known as loophole drugs.

According to police, the man, who has been named as 37-year-old Jun Onuki, caused a disturbance in a nearby supermarket when he removed his top and became "unruly," Fuji TV reported. Police say he then left the supermarket, still topless, and hopped over a 150-cm fence around a nearby school.

Police said Onuki entered the school grounds and menaced a schoolgirl. The girl skinned her knee falling over when Onuki approached her, Fuji reported. One eyewitness was quoted by police as saying that Onuki "was a weird-looking guy. His eyes were darting around wildly."

During police questioning, Onuki told investigators he had been smoking quasi-legal herbs before the incident took place.

There are a lot of commentators here who have undoubtedly never smoked Marijuana. His eyes wouldn't be looking like it was "darting around wildly".. his eyes would probably be looking still the same. -.- I'm asian.. I can say that.. =P And if he had been taking pure LSD like one commentator said.. he'd probably be hugging a tree or having a conversation with air... doubt he'd be a menace to society. As with anything.. and I mean anything at all... KNOW WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR BODY. Research.. research.. research.. and it's advisable to have a sitter.

Sure, the schools need to re-evaluate their security measures to match the crime levels of today, but you have to admit, it's hard to balance between providing a 'safe' environment for the students, and making them feel like they're in a prison. Higher fences, security cameras, maybe even security guards may be necessary in some cases, but nobody wants that.

Frungy

The active component in marijuana, THC, does not induce psychosis. I'm not saying that marijuana is safe, it undeniably causes memory loss in adults and in adolescents and children it alters healthy brain development and can cause learning disabilities.

Memory loss and mental deficits have been linked to adolescent youth. Science basically says it is safe for adults and causes little to no brain deficits.

The artificial cannabinoids in these "legal herbs" are at a much lower concentration (somewhere between half to 15 times lower) than regular marijuana, and are similar in their effects to THC, by which I mean that they are not likely to produce this sort of behaviour alone.

The chemical in a cannabinoid analogue called JWH-18 (and probably has been changed by a chemical or two) and can have disastrous health effects. It is NOT THC. Couple this with the fact that it comes from China and has zero oversight, and it's a recipe for trouble.

THC only produces psychosis when the individual is already psychotic and the THC just relaxes normal inhibitions and causes the individual to completely lose control. In short, the individual was already psychotic, the drug just relaxed their normal controls. It is noteworthy that the same effect could be achieved with alcohol, such in the "angry drunk" phenomenon.

The problem is in the assumption that this is cannabinoid analogue. There are hundreds and hundreds of RCs (research chemicals) that are available on the internet. There was mephedrone which produced cocaine-like psychosis, there are the 2C-B family which is similar to LSD.

This is THE problem with the current drug legislation. You have taken relatively safe street drugs that have been tested for decades and made them illegal. People who want to get high but don't want to get busted will take their chances with drugs that aren't illegal. They are more scared of getting in trouble with the cops than damaging their bodies or those of others.

This kind of thing will keep happening. The law cannot keep up with the chemists, the internet, Bitcoin, Tor, Silk Road, etc. When will it be time to look at harm reduction instead of foolish old men legislating morality?

Hey take your pick of countries with drugs and violence!!

Like Mexico? If they legalized marijuana they would only have drugs and no violence.

someone asked "where were the teachers to take this nut case down". you really think teachers in Japan would be brave enough to go and take down some nutter. I'm sorry but I don't think so. Also where was the guard that usually walks around the school grounds (I work at a school and I know they have one in most schools). Although most of them are really "OLD BATS" who would not do much anyways. Me thinks it's time to put some cops to do some rounds from time to time around that school, in case some more friends of the nutter decide to come. I highly doubt it anyone from the school would have had the "cohones" to tackle or try to stop the nutjob. They would have been too scared and just scream from far away.

I wonder what the local PTA will have to say about this druggie fool?? My guess they will not only have to work with the local police to try and find a positive solution to this MENACE. Sorry to see that some people here do not understand the meaning of simple words like menace, which is being completely used in a correct manner. Also it would be nice to kick out all the gaijin druggies from Japan so Japan does not become another crap whole with drugs and violence etc.like?? Hey take your pick of countries with drugs and violence!!

'Scaled' a 150cm fence, I love that; is the guy pint-sized?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I have never met a stoner who would have the determination or the energy to climb a fence of ANY height (unless there was a package of Oreos on the other side of the fence, naturally). Stoners make NEETs look industrious.

Straya Oct. 23, 2012 - 09:17PM JST Don't pretend that marjiuana is not a drug either. Drug induced psychosis is all too common back where I'm from. I have heard some terrible stories about this fake stuff too.

drugs are bad

He should drink some Monster Energy drink

Had he been smoking weed he would've been in the supermarket grabbing a basket full of munchies instead of acting like a freak show in a schoolyard! I can only hope the kid from the supermarket inflicted a little "corrective nerve stimulation" when he took him down!

I'd love some loser to try and something like this at my school. The three foreign guys in my campus would be fighting each other to be the first to get at the guy. Don't pretend that marjiuana is not a drug either. Drug induced psychosis is all too common back where I'm from. I have heard some terrible stories about this fake stuff too.

Hide Suzuki, absolutely agree. Had this moron only been smoking marijuana, he would have just been chilling, not freaking out.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Smoking weed or herbs doesn't make people do crap like this. Have you thought that maybe this guy was just a jerk to begin with?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

ohh scarry ass

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I just saw on the news that he was chased and thwarted by an employee of the supermarket (a young guy with a belt in some martial art, judo, perhaps?), who saw him attacking the girl and jumped over the fence to subdue him until police arrived.

Whaaat? Didn't they have the waist-high gates closed??

Yes, they did, that's why he had to "scale" the huge fence:

scaled a 150-cm fence

Security at Japanese schools are poor. They have training once a year on how to thwart off a nut case but I seriously doubt it is effective. There needs to be far more realistic training and security needs to improve for real. I hope the little girl is okay. Didn't say what grade she was but still way too much for a child to go through. Schools are supposed to be a safe haven for kids.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

This was on the news again and recently there have been a number of incidents where people have been injured, some seriously, and one HS girl killed because of people driving and using these herbs. According to the doctor they have the same if not higher amounts of THC in them than mj.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Menace means to scare with a threat of violence. The man came close enough to the girl to do that, causing her to fall down and injure herself.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Where im from, guys need not be high to be shirtless in public...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

So where there any teachers around with the balls to take him down? This kind of nutcase could do some real harm and needed to be put out of action quickly. Lucky for the little girl she only scrapped a knee but I'm sure she was really scared - poor kid!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

This is why we should legalize marijuana.

I agree. If you legalize marijuana you won't have as many people looking for more dangerous alternatives.

By the way, what does it mean to "menace" someone. I am a native English speaker and yet I have never seen the word menace used this way...did he grope her, rape her????

DisillusionedOct. 23, 2012 - 03:37PM JST No doubt this loon already had a few screws loose before getting into the herbs.

I very much agree. Unless those "herbs" were pure LSD then he undoubtedly was already seriously disturbed before smoking them.

Another case of Japan trying its best to bury its head in the sand and deny that mental illness of any sort exists here.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

No doubt this loon already had a few screws loose before getting into the herbs. Sadly, for this reason I think it is a good idea to keep drugs away from the J-public.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

he "menanced" her? what an odd phrase to use.

and i thought those quasi-legal drugs were already banned, which would effectively make them illegal.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I should have said one of the reasons.

Real marijuana is safer Tax money to the government instead of drug dealers/yakuza Create legitimate jobs like farmers, distributors , retailers
13 ( +16 / -3 )

Scary!! I hope they beat the crap out of this druggie!! Also find out who his pusher is?? Are?? Beat the hell out of him too!!! Poor kids at that school must have been scared to have an idiot full adult running around shirtless!! Good time for the cops to give local kids a needed talk on the danger of drugs too!

-5 ( +7 / -12 )

This is why we should legalize marijuana. Imitation legal herb seems to be causing a lot of trouble than real marijuana.

Rather bath herbs

"Bath salts" have arrived here?
