Man fatally stabbed on street in Aichi

Words cannot describe how sickening, horrifying, disturbing and scary this is. This could have happened to anyone regardless of age or gender! Let’s also hope the Officers of the Law catch this evil, depraved sicko immediately so this kind of incident never happens again. My heart goes out to the victim and his family.

What on earth is it with these random stabbings especially in a safe country like Japan??!! Do residents and tourists need to be concerned (perhaps start carrying pepper spray or bear spray everywhere they go)? This reminds me of an incident in the Saitama Prefecture back in October 2014 when a university stabbed a woman to death because he “wanted to kill anyone” and another incident in March 2015 when a woman in Chofu, Tokyo was stabbed to death by an attacker after walking home from shopping. Further this also reminds me of the stabbing massacre in Akihabara Tokyo in June 2008. I understand other incidents similar to this have occurred in Japan. Any kind of violence like this is disturbing, but it is especially disturbing that this kind of violence is happening to innocent individuals who are minding their own business. Random violence is a lot more scary than violence among those who know each other such as the mafia ordering a killing on a rival group or someone from within who is cooperating with the authorities (in such case like that no one has to worry about being safe from walking the streets). THESE EVIL ACTS NEED TO STOP! Those evil things who commit these heinous acts should receive the harshest punishment possible (including being caned) and not be able to walk the streets for eternity whether it is a life sentence with no parole or an execution.

Japan is probably one of the best if not the best country in the world which has something to offer everyone (tourist or resident) all the way from Naha, Okinawa to Wakkanai, Hokkaido. I understand Japan is famous for personal safety whether one is in a large city such as Tokyo or a small rural town in the Hokkaido Prefecture.

I thought Japan is supposed to be one of the safest countries if not the safest in the world where violent crime is nonexistent and anyone regardless of age and gender can walk around and not worry about being attacked and live happily ever after (close to a Utopia). Additionally, I understand Japan has Koubans scattered around to ensure optimal safety, strict gun laws and a culture where if one commits a crime, shame is brought to the entire family. That being said crime especially violent crime should be nonexistent. Just what is going on in Japan??!! It looks like nowhere in the world is safe except maybe North Korea (my understanding is despite the dictatorship North Korea is just about “0” regarding street crime).

Actually this man was the voice of a group protesting the up coming build of a yakuza dwelling/company. How do I know? I live 2 kilometers from the place of crime. I have the feeling that they won't catch the killer and the protest against the yaks will disappear.

I don't think the DEA had anything to do with it. They are American, and related to drugs. This is Japan, and there is nothing to indicate it had anything to do with drugs.

I'm sure they're investigating the victim's action while inside the conbini. To see if made an ATM withdrawal for cash etc. . . maybe some chimpira punks were also inside & onto him. Sad. This is the second stabbing with the same MO which I've read about recently in JT crime section-

@baroque Everyday millions residents of Japan quietly and safely go about their business. These "random" attacks are just that random. Japan by far is one of the safest countries to live in. Just because you don't read about the salaryman or hostess girl that safely made it home doesn't mean Japan is lost. Don't look to JapanTimes to gauge your ideas on Japan. flying_dd, where did you hear about the yak connection?

It is a well known fact that the yaks(yamaguchi) are moving their headquartes from Nagoya to Nisshin, near this old man's house. He just came back from a meeting concerning this problem, and since he was the spokesman of this movement, it's quiet clear in which direction the jcops have to look. If they won't find perpetrator this movement will die too.... Even if the yaks dish up a sacrificial lamb, the folks here are scared enough to commit to this cause.
