That picture looks hilarious, Are they all hanging around a bullet hole in the wall with shower caps on

Tell me again why Japanese police carry guns. It seems the only times they are used is by crims that steal them or for suicide.

Actually no, I remember a case last year where a guy didn't stop his car and the police fired at him. Or something like that. But yeah it's rare and be im happy with that. Don't need gunslingers here.

Are the police in Japan properly trained in physical combat? I would assume so, but they do tend to have accidents like this far too often. That or it takes a squadron to bring down one man.

Its better that police officers have a firearm and not need it than to need it and not have it. It only takes one dangerous situation to change everything.
The reinforced holsters are something they should have had a long time ago. Most countries have reinforced holsters to prevent things like this.
@Cosmos1
Forensic staff wear clothing and hair garbs like that in order to prevent themselves from contaminating a crime scene. Fallen hair can also mess with a crime scene and require extra work.

Thanks for the lesson. They are not very forensic , there are two of then in there that haven't covered their shoes. Now back to the picture.

Just my unscientific two cents, but I wouldn't be surprised if around half of the unlawful (non-hunting) gun discharges in Japan are done with P.O. service firearms. At least that is the feeling I get from news reporting. So to extrapolate that, cut the government issued guns by 40% and you get a 20% drop in gun-related crimes.

That officer is getting his ass kicked so badly by his superiors right now, I can hear it from the Tokyo station..
Aly Rustom
exactly! LOL!

Obviously, it is easy to remove a police officer's firearm from its holster.
AustPaul
Scary! Perhaps time to review the type of holster they use and refresher training in firearm retention.

We know its not GTA. No one punched the officer or ran them over with a car.

In some countries, he'd be dead, so I guess this is good news. Watched a young female cop on a scooter stop a belligerent oyaji yesterday. She was pleading with him to get back in his car so she could write him a ticket. Meanwhile, he's screaming at her. Of course, the squad care with her superior, male cop was driving up the street by this pt. Walking home with my daughter, I said in your other country he'd have been beaten into submission by now.

This is not GTA

Spot on.

I think I have seen more stories about cops forgetting their guns in convenience store bathrooms than being disarmed by perps.
Why was an armed cop ( or two ) responding to someone having kicked a car?

"Are the police in Japan properly trained in physical combat?"
Maybe they should mirror the US's finest, in every aspect?
Yeah, considering Japanese society is so dangerous, what else to expect from the J-police?
Goodlucktoyou
It is relatively easy to take a gun off a policeman/woman if you have a little martial arts experience. A friend did it in 5 seconds when drunk and joking around. I was told later by a Japanese friend that he will get bullied later by his sampai.

So simple, but this is a really difficult concept for a lot of people to understand.

Thanks ChipStar, not sure why I got the downvotes...
I think I’m more than qualified to back up my comment...If that happened here I am sure they would be doing the same.
No Business
The police should have just shot him.

Was in Nakano-ku last year waiting at an intersection. A couple J-cops were in front of me. One had his little police bag dangling on his holster by the bag’s handles and had something else in his hands. I looked at it in amazement and said to him “it’s going to be pretty hard if you have to pull your gun out with your bag hanging like that” They both looked at me like I was the crazy one! Clueless...simply clueless.
