Police in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, said Friday they have arrested a 75-year-old man over the death of a 58-year-old man whose body was found in his apartment on Thursday night.

Police said they were first notified of the incident when the 75-year-old man, Noboru Morimoto, called 110 at around 6 p.m. to report there was a dead man in his apartment, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police rushed to the apartment and found the body of Koichi Takano, 58, lying on the floor of the apartment, covered in blood.

Police said that Takano had knife wounds to his face and neck, and a bloodied kitchen knife was found in the apartment. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Morimoto was quoted by police as saying he and Takano had been drinking but denied killing him.

I have taken up drinking just in case I ever need to kill someone.

Kidding aside, this is sad beyond words and means the system and society is failing people in need.

He's 75, a little regret along with a tear or two, and the judge will let him walk.
