A man was found collapsed at the bottom of a stairwell at an apartment block in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, on Sunday night, police said Monday. The man, who had stab wounds in his chest and abdomen, was rushed to hospital but died soon after.

Police said they received a call around 7:40 p.m. from a resident in the apartment block, which rents units on a weekly basis, complaining that there was a loud fight happening next door.

Police said the victim, who has not yet been identified, was in his 40s or 50s.

poor guy ... although this kind of thing is becoming so common recently, he will probably be forgotten about by tomorrow.

South East Asian foreigners, the dead guy and the culprit. But why on earth would you walk around with a knife?

Sad to be that guy, to be sure, but everyone else should be happy they live in a place where an unspectacular murder makes national news. A guy getting knifed to death in a dark stairwell hardly makes page two of the local pages in most places!

I've "walked around with a knife" for 40+ years. Wonderful almost-all-purpose tool and, in a pinch, potential defensive weapon. Everybody should carry one, even if it's only one of those little Swiss Army Knives with the built-in sissors and toothpick. A knife and a means of producing fire are the original basic survival tools and still serve well today. Never be without them.

Any knife long enough to be so useful as that is illegal in Japan.

actually, the news in japanese has flavors of racial discrimination. it is a good thing that, somehow this website prevented that.

I'm guessing some comments have been deleted... I don't get where the foreigner aspect comes into it?
