The Saitama District Court has sentenced a 53-year-old man to 15 years in prison after he was convicted of killing a 34-year-old woman in a love hotel in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture, last December.

According to Friday’s court ruling, Kengo Hirota, of no fixed occupation and a resident of Sakado, Saitama Prefecture, strangled Masami Fujii on Dec 19, Sankei Shimbun reported. Hirota and Fujii checked into the Saint 2 hotel at noon that day. An employee found Fujii’s naked body lying on the bed at around 6:20 p.m. An autopsy revealed she had been strangled to death by a thin cord.

Hirota left the hotel by himself just after 2 p.m. After his arrest, Hirota told police he and Fujii had argued because he didn’t like her attitude and that he lost his temper.

Only 15 years for murder? Disgusting.

Not only that, he left her naked and dead like a piece of trash in a love hotel which will be her legacy. Her family deserves for him to never see the light of day again.

Japan dont really care about life of average people.

If the guy is from a richer and more influential family, he would have gotten away with just a probation

”justice” in Japan just reflect the difference in social standing between the perpetrator and the victim. If you are rich and powerful enough, you can get away with anything.

Strangled to death by a thin cord, and Kengo Hirota will be walking around a free man in 15 years or less. Where's the justice? He should be locked up for good. How would you feel to find out that this guy is your neighbor in the future?

How do Japanese law makers decide on such lenient sentences? Do they spin the wheel of justice and see where the bastxxd stops? 15 years is a disgrace for strangling to death another human being. When he gets out and does it again which law maker will be held responsible?

If this case had been in the UK the sentence would likely have been 25 years or even life but with a recommended minimum of 15 years. If he behaved whilst in prison and was not seen as a threat to anyone he would be released after 15 years or even a little less.

The Japanese system

just seeks guilt by pressure forcing societal compliance-justice is an afterthought...

her life was taken away at 34 years, his punishment is 15 years in prison, which is less than half of her age.....

how about a little more diligence / scrutiny of those who check into love hotels, this happens way too often, we seldom read about murders at The New Otani, Hyatt Regency or other reputable hotels, there should be a crackdown on love hotels.
