Man gets 4 years in jail for stabbing 2 teenage girls in Chiba in 2016

The Chiba District Court has sentenced a 23-year-old man to four years in prison for stabbing two teenage girls in two separate incidents on the same day in Chiba Prefecture in August 2016.

The court found Shun Ono of Fujimino, Saitama Prefecture, guilty of attempted murder, Fuji TV reported. Prosecutors had sought a six-year prison term.

In the first incident, which occurred at around 5 p.m. on Aug 22, 2016, Ono rode a bicycle up behind a 14-year-old girl and stabbed her in the abdomen as she walked along a street near JR Chiba Station. In the second incident, which took place at around 6:30 p.m. in Funabashi, 12 kilometers away from the scene of the first attack, Ono rode up behind a 19-year-old university student and stabbed her in the buttocks.

Both girls sustained serious injuries but recovered. They said they had never seen Ono before. Ono was arrested near the scene of the second attack.

In handing down the ruling, the presiding judge said that although a psychiatric evaluation of Ono indicated diminished mental responsibility, he nevertheless knew what he was doing when he attacked the girls.

Four years? He deserves ten years IMO.

Longer. What a joke of a sentence. Guy needs some serious mental help also... Let's hope he gets some inside, otherwise it might be a rerun when he gets out.

In four years he'll be out stalking and killing more girls.

4 years for attempted murder against 2 minors seems really lenient.

I've been stabbed before. 4 years is a joke. If he cut my artery, I will be in a wheelchair today.

4 years is definitely not a punishment befitting the crime.

I'm sure he apologized and bowed before the court and said the whole thing was regrettable. Such a thing goes a long way on Japanese courts.

I feel sorry for these 2 young women who are going to have to live with these terrifying experiences for the rest of their lives.

As for their attacker, he clearly a danger to any female around him and is a public menace, so he should be doing some serious time inside of a mental hospital for the criminally insane.

where do the find these judges? Again and again inappropriate sentences sometimes way too much then next day what too little. A bizare skitso court system.

Definitely a slap on the wrist and an insult to the victims and their families!
