Wait a minute! It took 12 1/2 years to get this to trial, with a confession?

mistress

Really?

The 1900s called...

A court sentenced a 48-year-old man to life in prison Monday for murdering his mistress and their baby boy born outside of marriage in Fukuoka Prefecture in 2004.

Took them long enough...

Kazuhiko Yoshidomi stabbed Katsumi Shiga, 28, and strangled their son Kazuto, about seven months old, describing the crime as "brutal with no room for sympathy."

brutal with no room for sympathy- yep. That about sums it up.

took the two precious lives including the baby in a grave case" as he was angry at being blamed by Shiga for not marrying her while living together

That's his pathetic excuse?? What did the poor 7 month old do to deserve this?

Yoshidomi's defense team had sought 13 to 15 years in prison, saying the defendant admits to the charges and repents for what he has done.

the defendant admits to the charges and repents for what he has done?? Seriously? That's their ridiculous excuse for seeking such a light sentence?

Good on the Judge for this ruling. He took 2 lives. He should be given life.

Oh, ok. So he admitted to what he did, though extremely selfish and brutal, they wanted this creep back on the streets in 13 to 15 years? Seems fair.....yeah....real fair. (sarcasm) He wanted his cake and ice cream, but didn't want to deal with the mess he made? Kick rocks with all that!

I hope that this acts as a precedent in that apologizing after the fact and showing remorse means diddly-sqaut!!

"Wait a minute! It took 12 1/2 years to get this to trial, with a confession?"

I'm guessing so that they had the option of finding him "not-guilty" but still have him serve the time proposed by the defense team.

They may as well abandon the death penalty here if these heinous crimes don't even warrant it. I can't think of anything more deserving of the strictest punishment than murdering a baby and her mother. Just hoping "life" means life with no possible parole - this brutal, cowardly killer should never be allowed to enter society at any age.

Rest in Peace to the two innocent lives.

Never understood these women who chose to be the Mistress is the need to have children that great they throw common sense out the door.

Please give this to all murders in Japan.

What kind of monster can strangle their 7-month son in cold blood? I can't even imagine it. This guy deserves the harshest penalty there is.

He wasn't arrested until January 2016.

This is how J do it!

"So tip up your cup and throw your hands up"

Two murders including a baby (his own) and still no death sentence. Life in prison is too lenient for this murderer. Not a good judgement.

That Tokyo Reporter article describes an insane case. Murdered in 2004 some time, but child welfare only realised that the child was missing in 2012, and the missing person report was filed in 2014. On questioning, this guy admitted everything, despite police not having found the bodies. How sad is it that nobody missed the mother, or the child until welfare decided to look into it!

from @Sioux Chef's link:

In September of 2012, a child counseling center consulted with police regarding the whereabouts of Kazuto. A missing persons report was filed on the boy in June of 2014.

So baby is killed in 2004, and not reported missing until 10 years later? And was the mother not reported missing at all? It's hard to blame the police here. They did a good job catching the killer 10 years after the fact.

"Mistress"? Seriously, why use such outdated and pejorative language.

People have gotten the death penalty for much less in this country.

The mistress didn't have any parents, relatives, or friends who miss her?

Generally you see here that murderers of children or babies don't get the death penalty because it seems children are worth less than human. Life imprisonment is actually way above the standard.

He did it to protect his "status" and "pride". Nothing more all me me me. Life is what he took life is what he should get... or save us all (tax payer, me a gaijin included) hang him up and save the money.

At least he'll be taken care of in prison. ( food, showers, medicine, heat in the winter...etc.)
