So he gets away from the death penalty because somehow the woman he owes money to pushed him to murder her?
Maria
I would be interested to hear what kind of excessive pressure this was.

Life is life but wow you can get a lighter sentence with murder if it is justified or the guy owes you money?
JeffLee
An extraordinary way of killing someone. They weren't able to jump out of the car before it was pushed into the hole?

Please read the story again and then correct the above sentence.

Yeah, I noticed it too but everyone makes mistakes and it's really not that big a deal that you have to post about someone else's very minor error.
Anyway, I think Japan could do with a true crime stories TV show like a Las Vegas CSI maybe as long as they keep out the drama and stick to the science.
Ganbare Japan!
I believe he should have been hung from the neck for these heinous crimes. Unforgivable.

Burying someone alive is pretty cruel and shows a lack of respect for the victim. It's a slow and agonizing death and it showed premeditation. He didn't deserve leniency.
Cochise
ganbarre, darknuts, I completely agree.

Why does anyone think that the perp’s sentence was so lenient?
Shenjingbing
Nothing like blaming the victims.

I think the criminal read "Dolan's Cadillac" from Stephen King.

That is one of the worst, if not the worst way to die -
At least life in prison means just that for this old geezer
