Man goes on trial over death of 2-month-old son

A 25-year-old man went on trial at the Mito District Court on Monday, charged with fatally abusing his 2-month-old son last October.

According to the indictment, Hiroki Horie, a company employee, beat his son Ritsuki who was sitting in the back seat of his car while in the parking lot of a drugstore in Daigo, Ibaraki Prefecture, at around 4 p.m. on Oct 5, NHK reported. When he returned home, the child became ill and lost consciousness.

Horie and his wife took him to a hospital where doctors said the child had suffered an acute subdural hematoma. He was transferred to a bigger hospital in Mito and died on Oct 7. The hospital notified police about a case of possible child abuse.

Police said Horie admitted he had hit his son on more than one occasion.

Admitted to hitting more than one occasion.” Like other fathers here, I’d like to help this guy climb up and down the courthouse steps so he’s not late to court.

Oh, Dear God! Two months old, may you deserve the long punishment a@@@@

I mean 2 months old for god sake !!?? what kind of animal hits any child let alone their own new born baby!!!???

No doubt though after he gets out of jail for murder he'll be allowed to breed again and do the same thing again....

Should be neutered!

Why does there need to be a trial? This pathetic excuse for a human being lost any and all rights the second he decided to beat a helpless 2-month-old infant to death. Put him on death row and be done with it.

Downright sickening. Raising children is tough and very frustrating at times but I can't fathom how someone could beat their own child to death.

Do it once, he'll do it again.

He even admitted it. He's an unfit father. Take the kid away from him instantly!

He’ll probably get only 7 years, when he really deserves 70.

hang him.

When are they going to bring back the good old eye-for-an-eye punishments?

beat his son”? - No, “punched” is what Horie did to his son. This was a fatal boxing injury:

Acute subdural hematoma which the most common acute brain injury in boxing, accounts for 75% of all acute brain injuries and is the leading cause of boxing fatalities.” -

- “According to the indictment, Horie, beat his Ritsuki sitting in the back seat of his car on Oct 5, When he returned home, the child became ill and lost consciousness, took him to a hospital where doctors said the child had suffered an acute subdural hematoma. He died on Oct 7.” -

If I had a two month old child, I would hug him or her. Not give an acute subdural hematoma.

When are they going to bring back the good old eye-for-an-eye punishments?

I was told here that that sort of thing was inhumane and these murderers should be treated with the utmost respect with a bed, shower and 3 meals a day.

they always get sympathy ("it was Postpartum even though the kid was 10!")

No, this is not an accurate representation of what actually happens in the real world.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Pathetic. Please put him away for life. Sorry excuse for a human.

The emerging truth about Japan’s families is difficult for abusers, their enablers and even apologists/excusers to face. There will be those here today denying it but

there are deeper issues seething in many Japanese homes, and the are not due to any pandemic:

Good point. This is about more than one man. It's about whatever's going on here that causes so many other men to turn out just like him.

Gaijinland: "Statistically in Japan more mothers kill their children than fathers. Still sad."

It's sad no matter what, not "still sad". But yes, we hear a lot more about the moms doing it, and they always get sympathy ("it was Postpartum even though the kid was 10! "and "Where was the father?!?" questions to reduce blame somewhat). They also get lesser sentences if anything at all. The good news on that front is that this guy is likely to get a harsher sentence than if he had been the mom (and where was she while the beatings were going on?!?), especially if they have other kids, who judges always rule "need their mother".
