Man arrested after driving car into group gathered round motorbike

If they were a bunch of Bosozoku revving their engines.... then you can sympathize with the guy, especially if they were doing it right near your home at night.

I can sympathize with his frustration, not with his actions. They are not reasonable no matter how loud the bike was.

Anti noise laws don't seem to be enforced in Japan. Back home you make a simple phone call and the police come down on these inconsiderate children like a ton of bricks. Goodbye noisey car/bike muffler, goodbye stereo and sub. Noise control does work yet needs to be enforced. I thought Japan was a peaceful and respectful land. Maybe only on the subway?

Bosozoku groups are a nuisance.

I've stared down bosozoku a few times, but then again, I'm a tall white guy. Generally, they're pretty compliant when verbally confronted (and stationary, with no quick getaway chance) as they don't want to attract police attention. Tell 'em to take it elsewhere politely but firmly and they will.

Actually, the police here are quite efficient at dealing with noise here.A simple phone call would have been sufficient to remedy the problem.

As kurisupisu said...the police usually have no problem moving them on. It's stopping them they can't seem to do ;)

@Saiko and Strangerland.....see the point of view in both posts. Probably not a good idea to drive a car into the group but after seeing what these punks do and hearing this crap sometimes I can understand how the man could be driven to the point of no return. Imagining they were in a parking lot next to his home and he snapped......

Actually I am surprised this doesn't happen more often. Annoy the wrong person and they will be out for blood.

Where I used to live there was an puny elderly guy with a modified, souped up older skyline car with fancy rims. His car is very loud, even when at idle. He would rev the engine and it got louder on early mornings and weekends. His engine would rattle sound all through the block, and when he took off he made more loud engine sounds. BTW his house is next to a nursery school and preschool, day care. Funny thing is the other Japanese put up with it.

When my two biggest pet peeves collide (literally): noisy motorcycle punks disturbing everyone versus angry motorist running down pedestrians.

Yeah, it's truly frustrating, but you've gotta call the police first before you take such drastic action. Japanese and foreigners alike might be reluctant to call because the police check your number and want to know who you are. Don't tell them who you are and set up your phone so they can't trace it and just report where they are. That's what we do.

There was this guy revving up his motorcycle near my house making the most horrendous noises. An old guy came out of an elderly home and asked him to quiet down, but the guy blew him off and kept on revving up his engine. So we called the cops without identifying ourselves using an untraceable line, then we waited and watched. First, a single police officer on a scooter came to check it out. The motorbike guy was rather stubborn, so the cop placed a call. A few minutes later a squad car showed up with a couple police officers. Then to top it off, 2 motorcycle cops appeared. The guy was surrounded and pretty freaked out by this time and he hasn't caused any problems since in our neighborhood.

these losers are a nuisance to everyone. Hopefully the rest of them will learn that there are people out there who won't stand for it.

Never understood the attraction of motorbikes (or cars) myself. I guess it's a speed thing, but most of the bosozoku around my area drive along so slowly on rather pathetic looking mini bikes or even scooters that it makes me laugh rather than angry. The noise is annoying, but that's about it. I certainly don't feel threatened by them.

Can't stand loud motorbikes and car stereos booming away. There should be more vigilante attacks on such inconsiderate a-holes if the police won't intervene.

I wonder how many times this guy has actually been down to these guys and asked them to clear off or tell them that there are families around with young babies that need there sleep? have the cops been called in the passed? is it a regular occurrence? if this is the first time well its a bit over kill to drive a car at them, as for punishment, it seems that no one was hurt, so to me he should pay for any damage caused to the motor bike, may be some people think that he should go to prison, I am sure these punks won't go to this area again just in case the nutty old man attacks them again!

In my area too the cops will usually sweep by and chase them off if you call. It's amazing they can't impound their bikes though, very few of them are street legal regarding noise levels and probably emissions.

Same with cars, I know people who have been asked to take off illegal mods before shaken and leave them by the door to put back on afterwards. Everything with traffic matters here is a joke.

This statement could get you 20 years in jail where I come from. Using a vehicle as a weapon would get you 5-10 years for starters and a ten year ban on driving after you get out. Admitting intent to kill is attempted murder, which is 10-15 years. Then there is reckless endangerment and dangerous driving. However, this idiot won't get any serious punishment. He's very lucky he didn't actually kill somebody.

A few years back, I stood up to a group of about 12. They moved about 500meters to a place outside a bookshop in front of the station. When I went to take the train, they were revving up their bikes. I watched the bookshop manager come out and kick every one of their bikes over by himself. Then, someone had called the police and they all picked up their bikes and ran away. Made my night.

Don’t get me wrong I love motorbikes and to visit Isle of Man is one of my long kept dreams. But there’s a time and place for everything. Have respect for the general population around you. Minute you start being a nuisance, you attract the other likes of yourself then don’t blame.

Agree with most people sympathizing with the driver, even if it was pretty ridiculous, his intention. He probably just snapped.
