Man held for slashing son, daughter with knife

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly slashing his elementary school-aged children with a knife at their Minami-Alps home in Yamanashi Prefecture.

The man, who has been named as Hiroshi Kono, is alleged to have slashed the faces and necks of his 10-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son at their home on Wednesday afternoon

Fuji TV quoted police as saying that Kono admitted attacking his children. "I lost my job in 2012 and I started fearing I wouldn't be able to properly raise my children," police quoted him as saying.

The children were in a stable condition on Thursday, police said.

“I lost my job in 2012 and I started fearing I wouldn’t be able to properly raise my children,”

WTF! And it what way is this related to slashing your kids? I have no doubt this &%$hole has been abusing his kids for quite a while.

This could very easily have been today's infanticide article, but instead, it is a very disturbing case of child abuse.

Apart from the obvious insanity and inhumanity of these despicable cases, what always gets me is the absolutely abhorrent and nonsensical train of though involved.

I lost my job, which caused me to worry about raising my children, therefore the solution was to try to murder them?? Am I missing something here?

How about if the solution instead was to change job fields/try something new/ask someone for help/pretty much any of the other million options you have available to you other than trying to kill your own children.

Apart from obviously questionable mental health (and few support/treatment options available), the lack of vitality/ability to fight your way through difficult situations which can often arise in real life is truly worrying, and increasingly prevalent in society for reasons that escape me.

So he decides to leave them scarred for life?! What a piece of ¥&@$. Should've just put them into care and offed himself.

And that's reason enough to attack and scar his own bloody children? What a weak, pathetic, vile excuse for a human being.

Loosing ones job does create immense stress but there are no excuses for violently attacking childern. Its always the case, seek help and don't be ashamed of it. Their is no shame in being unemployed.

Sick. Poor kids.

I fear this type of violence will continue to grow with men losing their jobs and women not making anywhere near enough to cover the cost of raising a family. Pay women what they are worth instead of making the men here to sole breadwinner and paying working women peanuts.

Because slashing your kids is proper child-rearing? A WHOLE lot of stabbings of children and others so far this week. At least they are in stable condition. I hope this guy gets a good stint for his efforts.

I agree with you. People nowdays are extremely hesitant to start families, and people who already have children are agonising over how to be able to afford to raise them. I don't condone this father's actions, but I can imagine the incredible stress that some parents are under these days. Those poor kids. I hope they get lots of TLC from another parent or relative.

I'm gonna be sick. This is just awful. Where do they find these people???!!!

Instead of rewriting past apologies and worried about hiding the ugly past, can this country address this problem from early age at schools so people will not use lame excuses to kill or mutilate their children?

It seems we are reading about these types of insane actions from parents to children ...children to parents everyweek now...don't people read the news ? Watch the news ? What is happening here ? Are people using what they intake as a possible idea for getting out of their responsibilities ? Why not just give the children up to a orphanage ?? It's a lot less damaging mentality than having a patent try to kill you then have to face public scrutiny with the staring prying eyes

Is it just me or is this family-cide trend picking up the pace? It seems like every couple of days...

It's sad but understandable, it happens ALL OVER the world.

If you've worked hard all your life, taken reponsibility and then find your family destitute it can crack any person's mind.

Those of you disparage his misfortune, please be stronger in heart when your own time comes.

It's terribly sad that a 38-year-old man would feel he had no options left. It would be interesting to know if he has searched for other jobs that would allow him to support his family.

Isn't this what the baby hatch is for?

Poor children.

“I lost my job in 2012 and I started fearing I wouldn't be able to properly raise my children,”

It seems his fears became a reality.

But seriously, the working system here promotes specialization, meaning that if you lost your job, you are psychologically unable to do anything else.

There is always manual labor, and lots of it. A person who really needs money and is willing to work will never find himself short of options.

Without faith, the times we live in are hard to deal with.

This man slipped, and then he fell.

Of course it's coward but Japan has lot of agency that could ask help compared to other country here many go suicide

At first glance, it does seem pretty incomprehensible. But consider this: You lose your job, you start to worry, your finances get thinner and thinner. Your kids, however, have no clue. They just keep asking for stuff like kids do. Pretty soon, in your illogical despair, you'll start blaming your kids for your problems. Taken far enough it's easy to see how somebody could harm their own kids.

Logic, compassion, and forethought are usually out the window whenever your own financial livelihood is under severe duress.

“I lost my job in 2012 and I started fearing I wouldn’t be able to properly raise my children,”

how does that equate to slashing them instead? the math doesn't make sense

sick bastard

Why take it on poor kids...Why!? What is wrong with this country raising children? Japan excels in security, safety, drug prevention, and so on...but can't get their act together with children!?
