Man held over death of woman in Kumamoto hotel

Police said Sunday they have arrested a 35-year-old man over the death of a 23-year-old woman whose body was found in a hotel in Uto, Kumamoto Prefecture, on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Kazuhiro Taira, allegedly stabbed his girlfriend Akane Takamura at about 4 p.m. Saturday, Fuji TV reported. Shortly after, he called emergency services to report a woman in his hotel room had lost consciousness.

Firefighters rushed to the hotel and found the woman bleeding from a stab wound to the chest, Fuji reported. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Taira, who is unemployed, was quoted by police as saying that he stabbed Takamura because she wanted to break up with him.

Firefighters? Perhaps Paramedics would have been a better choice to have dispatched?

You can assume an ambulance rushed to the scene with paramedics on board.

Firefighters, in the case of Japan, includes ambulance EMTs/Paramedics. When people dial 119, local fire departments dispatch their own ambulance as opposed to a hospital dispatching an ambulance. So, I think the story meant that. My friend is a Paramedic at a local fire station, so I know this to be true.

Burger_king Thanks for clarifying where the translation failed.

CrazyJoe - I've yet to see a Japanese ambulance "rush" anywhere.

The average time it takes for an ambulance to get to the scene is 8.1 minutes. (2010) In year 2000 it was 6.1 minutes. Total time to get to the hospital is 37.4 minutes. (2010) In year 2000 it was 27.8 minutes. It's a matter of opinion whether this is quick or not. Of course they won't go as fast as a patrol car. But the ambulances do attempt to get there as quickly and safely as possible.

Wow, that seems slow.

The moral of the story?

Break up with your boyfriend someplace public.

And make sure he is not carrying a knife!

I agree Alternate, and to think people would know by now not to end relationship behind closed doors.
