I think trying to bite off a finger is a sure sign he is sane and is trying to avoid punishment. I believe he knows what he is doing. Hope this doesn't sway the court.

Isn't it ironic that this piece of garbage who proclaimed his murders of the mentally disabled were a "public service removing the burden on society"; is using mental illness as his own defense to escape his well-earned punishment

From previous articles, this sounds like it is purely coming from his lawyers. They have to throw something at the wall and hope it helps, which is in no way meant to minimize or defend his actions.
