A 55-year-old man was in a coma on Saturday after he was stabbed in the eye by an umbrella during an argument with a work colleague in front of Tokyo station.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 11:45 p.m. Friday. Fuji TV reported that the man was arguing with his 54-year-old colleague, Yasushi Fukunishi, a systems engineer, when Fukunishi struck him with his umbrella, hitting him in the eye.

The man was taken to hospital where doctors said the tip of the umbrella pierced his brain.

The two men had been drinking with another colleague.

Perhaps he should have kept a closer eye on his native work colleague assailant. Ouch!

I guess he did not see it coming....

Why does the umbrella have long pointed end? They should put a ball or something on it.

I heard the tip of the umbrella reached his brain.

He should have worn safety glasses

I bet Monday morning is uncomfortable at that office.

I saw one old Japanese guy use his rolled up umbrella as if it was a samurai sword on a passing car which he felt came too close to him on a busy street. Pretty funny.

BTW, have many of you living here in Japan noticed that quite a few Japanese carry their umbrellas by gripping it in the middle so the point is either sticking out towards the front or back where it's eyeball height for unwary kids? I always want to tell these people they should hold it so the point is always pointed downward, but there are so many of them doing this that it seems pointless, no pun intended.

No word on whether or not the dude was arrested for attempted murder?

Being in a coma isn't such a great thing. Likely lose his job, income, etc.

Most men know the rule in barroom fights is to NOT use weapons.

Very cheap shot.

Hope the dude is OK.

stormcrow

I also notice a LOT of people carrying folded umbrella's dangerously, I sometimes knock them with a bag or my foot & when the person turns(sometimes they don't tho!) & utter ABUNAI YO!

Some clue in some just look stupefied, I tend to give them extra distance as people are pretty careless

Next will be a James Bond odd job sharpened rim bowler hat flying through the air in Osaka. "He was quoted as saying he was stressed out from work but was drunk and doesnt remember a thing."

I have been drunk and argued with people but I have never wanted or tried to poke anyone in the eye with an umbrella to prove my point...
