Man indicted for selling 130,000 syringes to drug dealers

The Matsue District Public Prosecutor’s Office has indicted a 47-year-old man on suspicion of selling around 130,000 medical syringes to stimulant drug dealers.

According to Shimane Prefectural Police, Teruhisa Fujii, an unemployed resident of Kyoto, formerly worked as a biomedical equipment technician at a healthcare facility in Kyoto Prefecture, local media reported. He is accused of sending 27 packages containing 130,120 medical syringes between February 2020 and November 2021 to a man and woman trafficking stimulant drugs in Osaka City. He reportedly pocketed 8.65 million yen from the illegal transactions.

Shimane police launched a separate stimulant smuggling case in which three people were arrested last November for violating the Stimulants Control Law. Fujii’s name emerged as the person selling syringes to the suspects, and his case was sent to prosecutors in March.

According to the healthcare facility, Fujii resigned from his job in September 2021.

Better to have a clean syringe then a dirty one,. That’s a public health issue on its own. Theft?

There is obviously a larger market. Then I imagined.

One thing is to give easy access to syringes so addicts can avoid transmissible diseases, another completely different is to sell them to the dealers so they can conduct their illegal business without calling attention to themselves.

Recall a shortage of medical syringes was national issue in those same months.

First reporting here unclear if same type as vaccine syringes but auditing inventory led to his discovery. Otherwise, he would have got away with it. Regardless, they’ll throw the book at him because he supplied illegal drug dealers. How many years does this crime get?

Teruhisa Fujii sounds like a first class citizen.

Providing needs and services for drug dependent deadbeats around the nation.

While simultaneously stoping the people really in need from getting their medicines. 130,000 syringes…….

Lock the fool up.

If he was stealing them to provide to people in need, even to give away to drug addicts clean needles. Selling it to dealers though, can't really attribute any benign motive to him.

@snowymountainhell

Yes, but that was because those were a special type of syringe being used to maximize vaccine doses. At least from what we know from this article, those aren't what he was selling.

Not that it makes it any better, but they are probably not the same that were in short supply.

People take drugs...get over it.

Addicts have rights too....ooh...that's a hot one !

Most western countries adopted "harm minimisation " practice as soon as policy makers stopped listening to cops and started listening to health experts.

Most addicts stop using .....thats a fact.....and to prevent lifetime illnesses like HIV and HCV , transmissible to non users , is a worthy public health goal.

BTW most addicts arent happy being addicts and there is usually some "back story " as to how the addiction began.

Drug addicts...COLD TURKEY!!!

Why use the “stimulate” word. Each drug is different. Ganja and Heroin and MDNA and LSD are harmless if used properly by mature adults. However, Meth and Death rhyme. For heroin, which is better smoked, clean needles are essential. Human health right. Because people share needles, and like not using condoms, there is a serious underground epidemic in Japan of HIV, TB and Hepatitis. Not reported on NHK.

Define how to use those extremely powerful illeagal drugs you mentioned in a proper manner ?

You didn't mention using them in a therapeutic medical treatment so i can only assume you are talking about recreational use which is unnecessary and a crime in Japan

Drugs ruin lives and whole communities .

Spread disease and crimes.

Used needles disposed of carelessly.

I'm not promoting drug use but when did selling syringes become illegal? What law did he break?

Can you get arrested for selling a regular kitchen knife to someone if they inturn stab someone?

Never seen a syringe on the street!, Tokyo Hands sell them in the hobby section. If it was regulated undercutting dealers users could have access to medical, mental support. Would take the “cool” factor out of the equation too. It’s the base for several legal drugs now, so it would be cheaper to give it to those who are on it, easy to deny it to any would be new user.

How many needle addicts are in Japan?” - Depends on context. According to the PM’s office, 65,640,430 as of Apr 26, 2022: - https://japan.kantei.go.jp/ongoingtopics/vaccine.html -

Addictions are debilitating. Some just can’t seem to get enough. Some choose not to participate in a third round.

To each their own.

Why are you writing about vaccinations and boosters? What does that have to do with intravenous drug addiction?

Drug dealers were arrested and the health care former employee arrested for selling the dealers syringes.

What's there to debate.

Its not like the drug dealers were providing healthcare like some commenters might try to say.

Snowy just likes to stir the pot and sound important.

So you think people following medical advice and receiving a health care intervention to lower the risk for their health are addicts? why did you not include diabetics, hemophiliacs or any of the other patients with chronic diseases that also require periodical injections?

May J law enforcement deal severely with death dealers like this syringe supplying man and his two drug trafficking clients. Many lives will be saved. Japan doesn't need this kind of body and soul destroying drug misery.
