A 65-year-old man was attacked by a man with a rubber hammer in a toilet at Tokyo Station on Friday evening.

According to police, the attack took place at around 6 p.m. in a toilet on the B1 floor. Fuji TV quoted police as saying that the suspect, identified as Takanori Hada, 32, hit the man from behind several times with a rubber hammer.

The victim suffered head wounds but his condition is not life-threatening, police said.

Hada was apprehended by station police who said he appeared to be intoxicated. Hada was quoted as saying that he wanted to kill someone and that anyone would do, Fuji reported.

A rubber hammer is heavy. The kind workers use to fit paving slabs into place.

Get real, man, rubber hammers are serious tools. They are metal or wood inside, they are very heavy (they come in all sizes actually, including very big ones); they are used for hammering something together that you don't want to scratch the surface of.

Perhaps not as easily as a regular hammer, but I could definitely imagine one killing someone.

He wanted to kill someone so he chose a defenseless old fella and attacked him from behind while he was taking a leak? Yeah, Japan is a 'relatively' safe country but, by golly, there are some serious whackos running around! In other countries, most violent crime is related to robbery or gang related activity, but in Japan it is usually some crazed loon attacking an innocent. Watch your back people!

Should've slapped him with a wet fish, a la Monty Python. Much more lethal than a rubber hammer..

Safe in Japan, huh? Not anymore!

Now, here in Japan, Japanese who had JOBS for years and years are LOSING their jobs, and in Japan, if you are 40?? 50?? almost impossible to find a new job, so hence many people going crazy and killing others, committing suicide etc..here in Japan.

Well a rubber hammer still does less damage than a real hammer, if the victim was hit by a real hammer, he could have fractured his skull.

I don't know, does Japan collect mentally unstable people and put them all together on an island for fun or does this society just excel in creating them? Nowhere have I ever experienced so many people seemingly missing a few screws as in Japan. Do they have mental institutions here? Or is the solution to just bow, fire off a fake smile, say moshiwakenai and work more and longer only to one day completely flip and do things like this?

Japan seem to have many more mentally unstable people than anywhere I have ever lived. Sure, crimes are abundant where I come from but this "suddenly-losing-your-mind-and-attacking-completely-innocent-people-with-a-rubber-hammer" style is not that frequent.

the fact that someone was attacked by a rubber mallet is titillating at most.
