Police in Saitama said Friday they have charged a 67-year-old man with assault after he cut a 41-year-old woman with a pair of scissors during a failed robbery attempt in a building parking lot.

TV Asahi quoted police as saying the incident took place at around 3 p.m. Thursday in Urawa Ward. Police said the suspect, identified as Taiichi Nakayama, approached the woman who works in a law office, threatened her with a pair of scissors and demanded money. The woman resisted and was cut on her left arm. Nakayama fled without any money.

Police said that about five hours later, Nakayama called 110 from a public phone booth and confessed to attempted robbery.

Nakayama was quoted by police as saying he desperately needed money.

Scissors sales may have to be restricted from now on.

I have a hard enough time cutting paper with half the scissors in my office. Would like to know what brand he was using!
