Man jailed for 16 years for killing girlfriend's 3-month-old son with stimulants

The Kumamoto District Court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 16 years in prison for killing his former girlfriend’s three-month-old son by giving him a fatal dose of a "kakuseizai" stimulant drug at a love hotel in Kumamoto in 2015.

Tensho Yoshimura, who had pleaded not guilty, was convicted of murdering Yushin Nishida and for violating the Stimulants Control Law, Fuji TV reported Thursday.

The court heard that Yoshimura first took the stimulants himself and then gave them orally to the baby in the hotel room between 5 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. on Sept 4, 2015. The couple and the child had checked in to the hotel at 3 a.m. Yoshimura's then-girlfriend slept all morning and when she awoke after noon, she noticed that Yushin was ill, with foam coming out of his mouth, and called 119 at around 12:30 p.m. Yoshimura left the hotel before the ambulance arrived.

Yushin was taken to hospital where he died due to a circulatory disorder and other abnormalities caused by the stimulant overdose.

Yoshimura's lawyer said he plans to appeal the ruling.

Not being judgmental, she just gave birth 3 months ago and she can afford to be in a relationship. Considering this happened obviously she don't know the guy too well. She did not kill her baby but she put the child's life in danger as well.

Daniel, certainly not just linked to infants. Japan has seriously got to step up and sort out child welfare. If there is ANY country than needs to protect it's kids, it is Japan - I know that sounds horrific as it seems like they are nothing but cattle but no. Japan NEEDS all the kids they can get and this country seems to allow parents/partners to kill kids and walk away with a slap on the wrist. 16 years for killing an innocent child is disgusting. People get longer terms for drugs - and the drugs is probably why he did get a longer than average punishment.

@Daniel

I think we agree on one thing. Abuse and violence against children like this is unacceptable. I wasn't thinking of comparisons with medieval times but with changes within my lifetime (born 1955). I was perhaps questioning your use of the expression "traditional life values". I don't believe these have deteriorated. But I think the "traditional values" that are often held up as sign of better times gone by screened the ugly things that went unseen. In the UK, no one used to report about child abuse in council estates in the 50s and 60s. I don't expect it was any different in the danchi of Japan.

If you consider those savage times that humanity has passed long ago to be examplary, then you have a point. For an instance, I disgust at the thought of comparing medieval with modern times in how there are less dying children because their parents commit infanticide. There is supposed to be a solid ZERO of them.

What you read here daily is not an exception, it is a consequence of what is happening in education, politics, culture. The deterioration of traditional life values are bringing forth worse and worse precedents.

I'll go out on a limb and say you're completely wrong. The angry comments seen here in reaction to this kind of thing are more a symptom of modern culture than the crime itself. Domestic abuse like this has gone on probably forever, and is less of a problem now than in the past. Look at infant death statistics in developed countries over the last 50 years or so. Do you think those higher figures in the past were all due to malnutrition or bad lifestyles? Increased social service provision and modern media has exposed such events to a wider public. In the past they happened in places that few people cared about and the media even less so. But they happened.

Give this CREEP life in Prison, he killed a innocent baby! Life for this guy!

Tmarie this is not limited to infanticide. This is a problem with the whole new and previous generation, with their moral values an awareness. What you read here daily is not an exception, it is a consequence of what is happening in education, politics, culture. The deterioration of traditional life values are bringing forth worse and worse precedents. As far as I am concerned, the public services are shrugging and saying "well it is a tragedy but let us hope nothing like this happens anymore" and that is it. No one with power in the whole society is not doing a thing to improve the situation. Unless they openly start a campaign of preserving what is left of upright moral image of humanity, this is not going to improve. Mild measures are, like, way past their effectiveness now.

16 years is not enough! This was a premeditated murder with intent to kill. These are the grounds for the death sentence in Japan. Sadly. I fear the leniency in the sentence is because it was a defenceless baby and not some rich-assed, Yakuza wannabe bureaucrat. Disgusting verdict!

"Yoshimura’s lawyer said he plans to appeal the ruling."

What a complete and utter scum bag. Mom's murdering their kids, dads and boyfriends doing the same. 16 years beats last week's 9 years the one father got, but still, I honestly hope somehow when he appeals that he gets an extra 10 years slapped on for being such a dispicable human being. And if the mother was also taking them, she deserves a stint as well for being an accomplice. Unwitting or not, she brought her baby to a love hotel turned drug den.

One week in prison is long enough, especially if your peado or baby killer, and he's got 16 years, some people say thats not long enough, all I can say to Yoshimura san is watch out for the shower block, apparently there are some very carless people around who leave soap on the floor, and people slip and fall badly on the floor. but on a good point the prison will have a hospital section.

Wow, that is pretty ridiculous.. Was the girlfriend the mum of the child?

He should have been given life. I'd just like to open up this site once and not hear of a child, baby, or invalid abused or killed. Is this really too much to ask?

What can one say about news such as this?

For all our thousands of years of development and culture, we still have people like this among us and seemingly always will.

Scum.

I just can't. Japan needs to sort out child welfare because this is disgusting. Did no one visit the house ad check on mom from city hall? Clearly not exactly mother of the year with taking her kid to a love hotel at 3:00 am and then sleeping until past noon.

That poor child should never have been there, more so with a monster like this guy.

Kakuseizai refers to any stimulant from cocaine to speed to extacy. It's a generic term.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I always thought KAKUSEIZAI was basically crack. Anyway yeah nice touch for the guy to run away before the cops came after finding the dead baby. Total Romeo.

It's like almost everydays.... RIP

the mother needs to be charged too. give her at least 10 years or enough so that she cant have a baby when released. she knew

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

This scum deserve more than just 16 years of prison,he even doesn't feel guilty for what he did. But here in this story also the mother is to blame, how could she bring a baby in such an environment, she deserves her time in jail as well.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Die you piece of worthless scum.... How could someone do that to a 3 month old baby!

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Truth trumping fiction again.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

How could an appeal possibly lead to a different outcome?

Is he trying to blame the mother? Or some stranger that broke into their hotel room and fed the kid some genki medicine? Give me a break

What a total scumbag. 16 years too lenient.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

I hope jail mates find out that he is a baby killer
