The Tokyo District Court has sentenced a 59-year-old man to 20 years in prison for setting fire to a house in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, killing his bedridden 61-year-old brother, in April.

The court heard that the defendant, Shinji Nagao, was initially charged with arson after he set fire to his own home in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, the same day, Fuji TV reported.

Nagao is believed to have not only set up an incendiary device in the entranceway of his home located in Kawasaki’s Asao Ward, but also intentionally caused a gas leak and placed portable gasoline cans in an attempt to burn down his house. Approximately 210 households in the neighboring complex had to evacuate during the commotion.

Police said Nagao has hinted at his involvement in the death of his older brother Yutaka in the fire which broke out at around 4 a.m.

The court that the two brothers had been antagonistic toward each for many years.

""We don't get along, so my only option is to kill you". Sad and stupid at the same time

I am very sure he did it because he was taking care of his brother and grew tired of the burden. It happens too many times in Japan. Because there isn't enough information/help for families with sick/elderly/handicapped family members. Also, its a "pride" thing where Japanese people don't want to seem weak for asking for help because its a bother to other people, so they find it better to "suffer" alone.
