Man killed, 3 others stabbed in same street within 10 minutes in Chiba

Yeah, someone gets stuck and it is definitely a member of the yakuza, somebody gets beaten up and it is the guys with tattoos, somebody gets murdered and guess who? To whit the rest of the Japanese population is totally non-involved.

Where in this story does it say police are looking for a member of the Inagawa Kai, or maybe the Yamaguchi gumi? Given the population of approx. 130 million on this island, probably a safer beat to assume somebody who has cracked under the social pressures of society or some nutter off his meds.....

Robbery could be the motive but the crime itself suggests abnormalities.

Each stabbing incident painfully reminds me of the Akihabara massacre in which I lost an acquaintance. May this incident is followed up by the execution of Tomohiro Kato and the prompt arrest of this clown dressed in black attacking people.

As tragic as this situation is, it is the kind of behavior one expects in human society, and the higher the population, the higher the frequency of such crimes. Japanese should be thankful that they are living in one of the safest nations in the world. Japan is not crime free, but far safer than almost any other society.

Have been wary of men covered in masks, glasses and hats. Now, more than ever.

Outlandish to make such a statement because some fruit loop goes on a slashing spree, perhaps he is just unhinged, or maybe he caught his wofe cheating or ....................... how can you relate it to a economy tanking when it is not .

Nothing wrong with pointing out that the economy is in a bad position. Yet, saying that it is directly attributible to this crime is like saying the rise in the global temperatures made this guy kill someone. There could have been a number of other reasons for which this lunatic killed. I'm sure there are a lot of down-in -their-luck homeless people who don't go commiting crimes. Being poor is a bad excuse to go out and kill someone.

these random robberies that end in death are really frightening and incomprehensible. reminds me of the college girl murdered near kichijoji last year for a few thousand yen. when caught, i hope he gets the death penalty.

Unfortunately the description/illustration they showed on the news of the suspect is so poor I don't think anyone will be able to pinpoint him from it. A guy completely covered up in a hoodie with big square sunglasses and a mask.

Their best bet is to get information by someone who has seen someone acting strangely in their neighborhood. That's how they caught the guy who kidnapped the elementary school girl two months ago.

Otherwise another way might be to get the fingerprints off the stolen car and hope for a match with anyone that gets taken in to a police station.

I really hope they catch this lunatic soon, but am worried that they might not be able to do so until it happens again. By the way, it sure is telling when people bring up violent death cases that happened either a year or years ago to point out the fact that Japan is getting really dangerous, when it would only take incidents happening mere days ago to point out the same fact with countries like the U.S.

Where was that woman atacked just the other day? Wasn't that in Matsudo or Kashiwa? I wonder if it's the same guy.

Police said surveillance camera footage showed the driver getting out and walking away.

Rather than show a meaningless cartoon figure of the guys description to the public, wouldn't the video footage showing the suspect be more useful?

Argus Tuft: No, it doesn't. This is the most horrific killing to come out of Kashiwa in the 15+ years I've been living there. I actually think Matsudo (one rapid stop away towards Tokyo) and Kita Senju (two rapid stops away towards Tokyo) are far more dangerous. Even Tsuchiura (further up the Joban line towards Mito) is more notorious for gangs and bosozoku. Kashiwa has it's robberies, thefts, fist fights, and crazy drivers, but rarely cold-blooded killings.

It must be incredibly alarming for you guys out that way, let's hope they catch this lunatic in the next 24 hours.

Argus Tuft: Yes, it is. On the day after it happened, we could hear a helicopter flying close by. After my wife and I heard about it on the news on the TV, we realized that it must've been a TV crew. Schools around our area had parents walk with their kids and in groups, just to be safe.

I feel relieved now upon hearing that they likely caught the suspect. They say that he lives in an apartment about 20 meters away from where the crime took place. He seemed to be acting very strangely. TV crew interviewed him once and he said that he didn't see it happen. Then he went back into his apartment. Later, he came out again, and then he started telling them all kinds of details (even though other witnesses said that it was too dark for them to be sure of what they had seen).

OK I am officially freaked out now. I read the story about the stabbing in China a few days ago and misread it as Chiba, and was horrified. When I clicked on it and realised my mistake, I suddenly had a vision of a stabbing spree in Kashiwa specifically. Kashiwa being where a friend of mine lives I guess. But this is a little too close to - whats the word or when you see something and then it happens? - forget the English now. Although dont think it IS English! Oh, that is going to BUG me now!!! Not deja vu. The other one!

Well if you think it is time to start carrying a weapon for our own protection because of some random crimes, go right ahead. This happened in Chiba and is nationwide news. In the meantime, every single town in your home country has crimes galore which don't even make the newspaper. If you are from Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Luxembourg or Bahrain which have lower crime rates, than I am wrong.

I'm glad my ex doesn't work in Kashiwa any more... every time I read about people attacked/killed there I get a sinking feeling.

True, Japan needs to wake up since they are so ingeuous about taking risky situations. For example, the 15 year old girl who was strangled... she was walking alone in a dark and deserted place at 10:30 pm. Why her parents didn't pick her up the station? I usually don't think about crime itself but psychopaths. That cyclist was lucky not to be killed when he confidently stopped at a stranger suspicious called. I know, we all want to help others, but unfortunately raw reality take charge its price. I am coming from a place with high crime rate and I am used to live with that sense, even in Japan.

Abenomics is making the fat cats richer and is killing the middle class, working poor and poor. Stats about dispatch companies, lack of job security, falling wages, rising prices are all over the place. Just because growth is up doesn't mean the economy is getting better for your average person in Japan. More folks on welfare than ever before - and with a shrinking population might I add. Do you really need this explained to you?
